The Student Loan Fund is targeting fresh loans of Bt34 billion to both new and previous students, although debt payments this year have tended to decrease from the expected Bt32 billion to around Bt20 billion, manager Chainarong Katchapanan said.

More than Bt10 million has so far been repayed to the fund this year, decreasing by 10 per cent from the same period last year, Chainarong said, adding that total payment this year would be lower than the targeted rate as numerous borrowers have been affected financially by the Covid-19 crisis.

Chainarong said the fund this year would expand borrowing opportunities for students whose families’ yearly revenue is Bt360,000 or lower, instead of Bt20,000 as before.

Opportunity to go into debt?

How many of these student loans will ever be repaid?

Most of these students are up to their eyes in debt already
