webfact
Govt wants Cambodian migrant workers to stay in Thailand By THE NATION The Thai government wants Cambodian migrant workers to stay in Thailand rather than return to their homeland during the Covid-19 crisis. Suchart Phonchaiwisetkun, Employment Department director general, met with Cambodian Ambassador Ouk Sorphorn on Tuesday (June 2) to discuss how Thailand would manage the immigrant workers amid the pandemic. Suchart explained that the workers had demanded to continue working in Thailand. Having them return to Cambodia would risk spreading Covid-19, and also cost money to transport them, he said. If they stayed in Thailand, it would alleviate Thai businesses’ worries of a labour shortage, he added. “The Cambodians agreed to the preliminary principles, and want relevant agencies in Thailand and Cambodia to meet in a video conference later,” Suchart said. ukrules
All that unnecessary travel is now coming under scrutiny. Why must you leave the country to renew or apply for a new visa type when you're already here? I know this is a very old rule but I suspect it originally came down to drumming up business for the airlines.
