Up to seven provinces have been hit with thunderstorms and strong winds over the past three days, Monton Sudprasert, director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said on Wednesday (June 3).

The provinces that have been hit by bad weather include Lampang, Phichit, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin and Sa Kaew, and 15 districts have sustained damages from the storms, though no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.

Monton explained that the storms could be blamed on the southwest monsoon that was prevailing across the Andaman Sea as well as low-pressure areas covering upper Vietnam.

The department has sent its officials, along with soldiers and teams from related agencies, to help those affected repair their homes, as well as distribute food and necessary items. The officials have also taken note of damages in line with the Commerce Ministry’s regulations.
