Tiananmen massacre cookies delivered to Chinese embassy

Pro-democracy activist Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal on Wednesday (June 3) distributed special “Tiananmen 1989” cookies to mark the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Netiwit and fellow activists handed out the cookies to passersby in Siam Square and Chinatown before also attempting to present them at the Chinese Embassy.

Hundreds of protesters were reportedly killed on June 4, 1989, when Chinese troops launched a crackdown on a largely peaceful rally for basic rights being held in the Beijing square.

“We hope that eating the cookies will help [Chinese authorities] to feel remorse for violating basic human rights and learn from the Tiananmen massacre so they give up oppressing Tibetan, Uighur, and Hong Kong people as well as building dams to destroy the Mekong River,” he said.

The cookies feature a picture of Tiananmen Square and “Tank Man”, the unarmed protester photographed standing in front of a column of tanks. The flavour is milk tea, to represent the so-called “Milk Tea Alliance” of countries that China is allegedly trying to dominate, such as Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Netiwit also used the opportunity to promote a fund established to protect the Mekong River from China’s programme of dam-building.

Earlier this week, police banned Netiwit and other activists from holding a vigil outside the Chinese Embassy to mark the massacre, citing the Emergency Decree and risk of Covid-19 infection. The move drew criticism from some observers, who said the government was using the state of emergency to suppress free speech instead of the virus.

Yes, we can only hope their time will come one day.  Other than these fine people, so much of Thailand is in need of much change.

The emperor's at the embassy should enjoy a nice morning tea, Tiananmen cookies with a nice glass of hot water while the mourn the numerous people they killed 31 years ago! Yeah right!

Xi must be happy to get some cookies to the jar.

Well done.

Still see hope in some Thai people. I admire their gusto but unfortunately it is going to take a lot of joining hands to change the Chinese government and this one as well.

Most Chinese have never heard of 'tank man', the most famous photo of the 20th century. Hardly surprising as they have 35,000 internet police. When you search for June 4thon Baidu, you see baidu-0.jpg

 Whereas google

Good on them, they are helping get the brutal truth out because they know they will be next to be thrown under the bus, like all of us.

You gotta love this. Clever, simple, non-violent way of expressing yourself, and making a point.  The world needs more of this.

Having Winnie the Pooh on the cookie box is a nice, subtle troll. They could have really took the p*** by taking a pot of honey to the embassy.

I bet they went down well with the morning coffee.

????????????????????????

Personally, I was very surprised they were not "detained" by the pro-military, pro-Chinese, anti-democracy Government! Future Forward???????

Surprised they were allowed to do this and it is actually being publicised in the Thai media due the similarities with what has happened here in the past.

That would make em choke

"Hundreds of protesters were reportedly killed on June 4, 1989, when Chinese troops launched a crackdown on a largely peaceful rally for basic rights being held in the Beijing square."

Why "reportedly?"

And there are people on here defending the CCP, this is what Chinese monitoring is, erasing history!

Very wel done.

Only problem is, that China is too powerful already and is threatening persons, countries with counter measures, if these try to mingle in so called "Chinese internal affairs", Tibet and Taiwan considered "lost sons", who have to be brought back in the mothers womb.

China is the factory of the world. Corona showed that once again, many products having to come from China (face masks, etc).

We are depending too much on China, they know that and therefor they can be arrogant.

In name communist, but in reality imperialists and capitalists, suppressing nations, stealing intellectual property.

Europe, USA, Australia, NZ, Asian countries should unite, stand together and force China to be more democratic and behave in a normal way.

Bring back production to our own countries a.s.a.p.: better quality control, faster supply chains,

less subject to Chinese blackmail.

RESPECT

Well said. It's a racial slur disguised as a complement IMO.

People like K.Netiwit restore my faith in this place.

Well done, brave man.

Oh there's no implication. It's all baldly stated on the University thread.

Too much for the brainwashed to take in, but nobody says 'definitely.'

If they had watched the BBC documentary I've just seen, they would not be in any doubt of it. They could, of course, ask Kate Adie.

There are no official figures obviously. There were few Western journalists and the one that got the Tank Man photo had to hide the film in the cistern in the toilet as the special police raided his apartment, taking all film.

What is boldly stated and what thread?

I wonder if you have any Thai relatives or friends?
