Two more Covid-19 cases in state quarantine

There were two new Covid-19 cases over a 24-hour period, Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul, assistant spokeswoman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said on Saturday (June 6).

 

The total number of patients since the outbreak reached 3,104 -- 2,971 people have fully recovered and returned home, 75 are undergoing treatment in hospitals and 58 have died.

 

The new cases were asymptomatic patients in state quarantine. The first patient was a male student returning from Russia, and the other was a male factory staff returning from Kuwait.

 

The assistant spokeswoman said that most of the patients found in state quarantine were males, the majority in the 20-29 age group.

 

Since February, 167 returnees have tested positive in state quarantine. Most of the infected patients had returned from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, she added.

 

Globally, the number of cases is in excess of 6.8 million, increasing by146,427 in the last 24 hours. The US, Brazil, and Russia had the most number of cases while Thailand was 80th, the assistant spokeswoman said.

 

Panprapa said that Brazil’s government has allowed the testing of a Covid-19 vaccine, previously tested in the UK. Meanwhile, South Korea has said that its 39 new patients did not show Covid-19 symptoms, similar to recent asymptomatic cases in Thailand, she added.

Amazing. Do we know how many tests are being done in the country each day on people who are not recently returned and in quarantine?

What a fantastic job they have done testing and quarantining all returnees.

They have kept any infections confined which is proven by the fact there are no local infections reported for several weeks in provinces and more then a month in most provinces. Very organized and efficient.

The better news are that No local transmission found for 12 days in a row which is a great news and a big kudos to the people who manged the pandemic and all the people in Thailand in general who listen to directions and obeyed instructions...

Not all of them 'obeyed instructions', especially those in the public eye.

 

I saw a Thai TV cable talk show yesterday. There were six people, four people were wearing face-shields, no face-masks. The two others had nothing at all.

 

Wasn't it a couple of days a doctor from the health ministry said that wearing face-shields alone was pointless.

Others seemed to think that it was a Hi-So fad, by showing they could afford one.

Praise for a job done is only justified when when the process applied was correct and had a direct impact on the results achieved.

Disregarding the process but praising the results is short-sighted as those results can be due to other factors than the measures taken.

In the case of Thailand, there can be no doubt that the country did not suffer the cases and deaths other - mainly western - countries experienced.  Even if the Thailand figures are a gross underestimate, it is clear that covid did not have the impact here that western countries suffered.

But praising the 'fantastic' approach of Thailand is imo far from justified.

All TVF members will recall the packed Immigration offices in the early days of the covid-situation, and that purely because the government was extremely late in announcing the Amnesty.  And there are many more examples of poorly designed and implemented measures.

Imo it is fair to say that Thailand over-reacted and was very late reacting properly in the first place.

And we are currently facing once again a late reaction to soften and gradually abolish the draconian measures that were implemented, and which continue to hurt the thai people needlessly that lost their jobs and have no income.

Thailand (like most of South-East Asian countries) has been lucky to escape the pandemic, but their approach to the crisis is not worthy of any praise.

Thailand has also done a fantastic job with their death rate.

Number 3 in the world with a population over 50 million people 0.84 deaths per million.

A big shout out to the modern medical facilities and well trained doctors and scientists.

Truly Fantastic work.  Keep it going Thailand keep it clean and continue to identify and properly treat any imported infections  and maintain restrictions to keep this filthy virus out of the country.
