pill identification

Featured Replies

I've been taking these over the counter mild sleeping pills. The chemist told my wife they are called Tripta. I've searched the pill identification sites to no avail. The pills bear a triangle motif with ATC in it. I'm curious about any side effects due to long term use. Perhaps someone recognizes them and could point me in the right direction to get some information.

This is Amitriptyline

It is not a sleeping pill as such, it is a tricyclic antidepressent though some people find it helps them sleep.  It is also used for some types of chronic pain, usually in combination with other drugs.

Lots of side effects would not be my choice as a sleep aid.

Antihistamine like hydroxyzine or Sominar is a better choice IMO, Even with this, best if use is occasional rather than every night

Thanks for the advice. I think I will wean myself off them. As my daughter tells me "Old people need less sleep." I'm 86. I suppose that includes me. Thanks again.

BTW you call them "over the counter ".

That maybe correct in Thailand but most certainly not correct in your home country (I suppose you are farang)
