Pattaya to Hua Hin ferry: Will remain shut until an "appropriate time"

Sophon Cable TV on Facebook quoted the Region 6 harbormaster as saying that the ferry from Pattaya to Hua Hin would remain shut for now.

It would resume operations at an appropriate time in the future, said Ekkarat Khantharo.

The Royal Passenger Liner Co Ltd service was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. The main problem is that it represents inter-provincial travel with all the difficulties that presents as lockdown measures are eased.

The company also needs to up its game regarding measures to limit the spread of the virus before it is allowed to sail again.

Ekkarat said that transporting goods between provinces at sea is no problem, people is another matter.

Two hours.

It's actually pretty quick considering road time is around 5 hours. Not surprised it isn't busy though as who living in Pattaya wants to go to Hua Hin and vise versa, too much like same same. maybe they will discontinue it if biz remains very low?

If the sea is a flat calm then possibly....two and a half to three is more likely...but lo and behold if they decide its "too windy" aka not enough passengers..... it gets cancelled :whistling:

Buses can be covid free but a boat can't??

We can not start service because of Covid, is just another way of saying we are going to lose a ton of money with no tourist in town if we started now...

The local farangs and Thais just dont shell out 1,250 baht very often for a one way trip.......

Even in the best of times I think they ran 60-70% empty........Now it would be about 98% empty...

Some tourists spend more money for less time with a lady. But Pattaya needs more tourists interested in other natural beauties than those with 2 legs...

The only natural beauty in Pattaya is on 2 legs.

The ferry was a good initiative, it was just 5 to 10 years too late. The majority of tourists here now are zero baht package holiday makers.

I remember when it started - it was used for Pattaya (7-12 nights) + Hua Hin (2-4 nights) tour packages -
when it was suspended the transfer type was switched to minivan by land.

The demand for Hua Hin was very low among package tourists anyway.

Yeah, you guys are right. I remember when it first started, we debated what the price might be. Most of us thought 500 to 600 baht one way would be a fair price but at 1250 baht, good luck with that. Flights to Singapore, Cambodia and Laos are cheaper than that!

From boarding at Hua Hin's terminal to walking off the dock area at Pattaya was

3 hours, and 1200 baht for a one way ticket. Bus from Pattaya to BKK airport

then other shuttle to Hua Hin was 300 baht, plus 100 baht to the hotel, took longer

sure  but way less than using that overpriced Ferry. The international travellers

are a large percentage of the ridership, and see how many international flights

have been going to Thailand.  Expect Sept to December for this boat system to

operate again.

Geezer

And that "appropriate time" will never come...the ferry has never been a success simply because there is not sufficient customers to make it profitable.....another white elephant

You are applying common sense...rarely happens here in thai businesses :whistling:

And how long did it take you to get to the ferry terminal from the centre of Hua Hin and cost please?

Truth of the time through experiencing it....don,t forget the ferry terminal is some way out of Hua Hin which adds to the time.

Perhaps you can tell us how many times you have been on the trip to be able to quote times like that. Is it a few or are you just guessing again?

Not sure why you keep pointing out it takes less than 4 hours. Sometimes it does take 5 hours. It depends on traffic. Sometimes it takes 2 hours just to get across Bangkok during rush hour.
