A drunk taxi driver was arrested in Bangkok after losing control and slamming into a motorcycle taxi rank and cart selling coffee yesterday afternoon.

Eight people - five men and three women - were injured, three seriously.

The collision happened at the end of Ramkhamhaeng Soi 60/1 in the Bangkapi area of the capital.

Mongkhonchai, 55, was found to have an alcohol level of 147, nearly three times the limit.

He said he hoped everyone recovers and is sorry for what happened.

He explained that he is a motorcycle taxi rider himself. In the morning he had been at his rank getting drunk because his wife had left him.

He then got in his taxi and was going home.

He was charged with DUI and causing injury and damage and detained by the Hua Mark police.

Cause for celebration?

Drunk because he only drinks on days that begin with a sunrise?

This thing about reacting to having a bad day by plowing a motor vehicle into a crowd of people, is this considered acceptable?

An act of madness!

Why don't these people wear socks, the feet are the most disgusting part of a human body.

The television news this morning said two people also died.

Strange question to ask considering that no one claimed that it was acceptable.

What a guy !

If he did that on my soi, I would give him a medal.

He just had a bad day...wife left him so is that not a good excuse? Better than brakes don’t work or wet conditions

since Thais Gov doesn’t take driving seriously, any excuse works for the society...

he has a broken heart...a little collateral damage is expected

Smart lady

Yes indeed.  The very fact that he was arrested would suggest it is not considered acceptable.

You haven't been very observant then. There are other less visually pleasing aspects of the human body than the feet! ????

So he was a motorcycle taxi driver but he just happened to have a taxi parked near by and after he got drunk decided to run these poor buggers over??? Am I missing something?

Trusted Thailand.... come here and be well taken care of !!!!!

What?? What about the big bellies and big boobies on the disgusting shirtless guys. I think I would rather

look at someones feet, and no, I don't have a foot fetish.

Just arrested ! Killing people doesn't guarantee a long custodial sentence in Thailand ! So many other factors! Remember we're not talking about a rational place

A husband and wife walk into a bar. There is a loud drunken man trying to sing in one corner. The Wife says "Look at that man, I know him, and to think 20 years ago we were engaged to be married, but I left him.

"Looks like he is still celebrating" was my reply................

Drunk to celebrate his wife leaving or to commiserate?

He explained that he is a motorcycle taxi rider himself. In the morning he had been at his rank getting drunk because his wife had left him.

Unless I am not reading this properly, he was getting drunk whilst on duty so not only endangering himself but also the unlucky sod who rode with him

The more I read articles like these, the more i understand the alcohol bans.  I don't like the bans, but I understand why.

I find over the calf socks and sandals far more offensive
