Thailand placed on flood alert for next two days

Bangkok and 70 other provinces have been placed on flood alert for today and the next one (June 16 and 17) after forecasts of heavy rain.

 

The southwest monsoon together with low pressure over Laos and upper Vietnam had whipped up thunderstorm conditions, explained Monton Sudprasert, director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

 

The following provinces are covered by the flood warning:

 

North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Lamphun, Lampang, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani.

 

Northeast: Loei, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Mukdahan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani.

 

Central and East: Chainat, Angthong, Singburi, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Suphanburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan, Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

 

South: Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Satun, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla.

 

Monton said his staff have been ordered to their stations to monitor the weather and water levels around the clock. Emergency response teams (ERT) plus their vehicles and machines have been prepared to tackle problems as they arise in the provinces under threat.

They have named all 76 Provinces .

We've had about 30 minutes of light rain around Chiang Mai today, so unless things change dramatically then Floods are out of the question !

Very intelligent.......they could've said, the whole country!

The drought will resume next month.

Got drilled this evening here in Bangkok.  Raining steadily and heavily for the past 3 hours.  Started to rain halfway through my 8km run in Lumpini Park.  Was a drenched runner by the time I got home.  Can't wait to see the morning and what it might bring.

Bucketed down yesterday and today in Chiang Rai.

just say :   Heavy rain for most of Thailand.

Crazy how dry Chiang Mai has been the last few months. I think the grand total is at 130 mils for the year. Even the last few days we've barely received a drop.

We need a lot of rain before we have floods. No rain today where I live in Phayao. I can always hope.

Good! I hope those drought areas will get enough rain.

Over my village, in Pathum Thani, so far rained about 200 mm this June. Which is above average. My plants love it ????

There will be queer periods a funny smells

Plus 6 in Bkk area.

This is why i put my hammock at the top of the mountain, tied high up a few electric poles.  

 

no flooding concerns for me during a bad storm!!!!!!!!   I've called my hammock, "Darwin" because I'm the smartest poster on TV.

Doesn't Thailand have 77 provinces now :They should listed the one that wasn't affected. Somehow Thais always manage to get things the wrong way round. Lack of logical reasoning. 

Thailand needs the rain. I hope there will be a lot of rain the next months to fill up the dry wells, reservoirs, dams, rivers etc
