A clip that went viral on Thai social media showed the moments when a 52 year old female taxi driver confronted a male pick-up driver in the Bang Kaew area of Samut Prakan with an Itoh chopping knife.

She said he braked suddenly. And claimed the knife was just to do minor engine adjustments.

She has been fined just 1,000 baht and given a month long suspension. But she intends to consult a lawyer about the person who posted the clip saying that SHE has been defamed and she wants justice.

Both the participants in the Tuesday afternoon drama - Benjamat, the pick-up driver and Kesara, 52, the taxi driver - explained themselves at the Bang Kaew police.

Benjamat said he had to brake suddenly when a car pulled in front of him. A taxi following behind him had to do likewise.

Soon the taxi cut in front of him and had some choice words for him. Seeing it was a woman and not wanting trouble he decided to just drive off.

But the female would not let it rest, despite the fact that she had a female passenger in the back of her cab.

He said that she continued to chase him and after forcing him to stop for a second time got out with the large Itoh knife. At this point Benjamat's wife, also in the pick-up, started filming.

He said he was willing to let the matter rest as no damage was done.

Kesara told the cops that the pick-up driver had not needed to brake so sharply and she thought it was deliberate and got very cross.

She claimed that she wouldn't have used the knife. She also claimed that she kept it handy in her cab after a mechanic advised her that she should use a metal object to give her starter motor a good hit if it played up.

After hearing all this the police fined her for having a weapon in public.

For her part Kesara said that she was humiliated and sworn at on social media and intends to consult a lawyer to make a case for defamation against the person who posted the clip. She said she wants justice.

She was later spoken to by the Department of Land Transport who fined her 1,000 baht and suspended her license for 30 days.

Put the machete wielding psycho in jail for 6 months.     Oh right, it's Thailand, she'll be back driving a taxi with a full taxi license in a month's time.

Dumb as a box of spanners! And I am talking about the defamation laws which allow her to do so, as opposed to the crazy knife wielding lunatic taxi driver herself, even though the comparison would apply equally well.

If she sues the maker of the clip for defamation and goes to court, in any western country she would be in for a surprise.  Almost certainly the judge would dismiss the ridiculous case, and all the costs (lawyer fees, courtroom charges, etc.) would be for her to pay, with possibly an Insult Fee on top for wasting the juridiciary's time.

But this is Thailand, so not sure what would be the outcome.

She isn't in a western country.

Neither can you sue for spilling your coffee while you drive in Thailand.

You are right. They can be aggressive. Just remembered the old lady that killed a guard with a knife not so long ago. Have to be more careful.

The only benefit of the lockdown you weren't at risk from road rage people with knives and guns!

so she did not keep enough distance in the first place, got excited,
and started behaving like the psycho she probably is.
I'd be for Psychiatric evaluation before allowing to drive passengers or other commercial vehicles.

But but how a female taxi driver can protect herself?

Latest Department of Land Transport Posted a message stating that 30-day suspension of the driver's license, according to the media. News of the public car drivers (taxis) pink cars, registration number Tor-3248, Bangkok. Bullying behavior Showing impolite speech And showing weapons, knives in public Which affects the image of public transportation Department of Land Transport Inspect the said taxi belonging to a taxi cooperative With a driver named Ms. Ketra

Don't break the image of public transportation Department of Land Transport.   Is that possible ????

Oh come on, i bet you do sometimes. :cheesy:

So she was tailgating, with a passenger, charge her for putting peoples life in danger, driving without due care and attention, dangerous driving and threatening behavior. with her rage she should not be employed as a driver of anything.

Makes sense.

My massage friend said aplenty Thais wield a "weapon" 3 inches or less ????

as for the taxi driving female: if going to the beach is 100k fine, that 1000thb clearly a joke.

Small price to pay for 2 min online "fame"...

A lifetime ban from taxi driving, and the passenger suing for reckless driving and endangering would be the right course to add, and would be still short of the jail deserved.
