Trump administration aims to end Dreamers immigration program in six months

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is determined to end the Dreamers program that protects immigrants who entered the United States illegally as children within the next six months, the acting head of the Department of Homeland Security said on Sunday.

The Trump administration views the programs as unlawful and the U.S. Supreme Court - which last week ruled against the Trump administration's plan to end it - did not disagree, acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf told NBC's "Meet the Press".

"At no point in that decision did they say that the program was lawful. They simply didn't like the rationale and the procedures that we used," Wolf said.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday blocked Trump's effort to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy put in place by former President Barack Obama, which protects roughly 649,000 immigrants from deportation.

The decision upheld lower court decisions that found that Trump's 2017 move to rescind the program was unlawful but does not prevent Trump from trying again to end the program.

Trump on Saturday said his administration would resubmit plans to end the policy but gave no details.

Wolf told CBS's "Face the Nation" the administration would keep renewing visas for the people covered by the popular program while seeking a way to permanently end it.

Asked if Trump had ruled out ending the program through an executive order, Wolf said the administration would continue to press Congress to find a solution.

But he said the president had also directed DHS to look at carefully at the Supreme Court ruling and the possibility of refiling its proposal with a different rationale.

"I'm not going to get ahead in front of the president. He's going to make that decision at the right time, but the department will be ready to make that call," he said.

Trumps adminstration is like a fish gasping for air left on the beach with a receding tide.

Only6,000 + attendees for the fading orange guy's rally?

Hopefully Dreamers have no worries.

We do??? By letting this continue there is no deterrent for illegals coming in bringing their children. The only way to legal immigration/citizenship should be going through the proper channels like most people. You can debate it all you want but this is the right way, I am very impressed with Thailand‘s immigration policies, very simple and straightforward and if you don’t follow the rules you’re out of here. They are a perfect example of what immigration should be.

Yes dude. We do. You seriously didn't know that?

Let me help you out then.

Poll finds broad support for path to citizenship for DACA recipients

A strong majority of voters — including most Republicans — support a pathway to citizenship for "Dreamers," immigrants brought into the country illegally as children, a new poll finds.

The latest Harvard CAPS-Harris survey found that 76 percent of voters say that those who were eligible for protections under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program should be given a pathway to U.S. citizenship. That figure includes 63 percent of Republicans.

Yeah. Red meat for his minority white nationalist extremist base. He's never been a president of all Americans. Only that base.

It will be 7 months until Trump is out, if I did the math right. He may lose in November but he is not out the door until around Jan 20, 2021. And if you think just because he may stop going after dreamers just because he loses election... I think he will double down on his chaos and destruction... "What has he got to lose?"

Trump is like a guerrilla that runs out of the jungle, beats his chest & roars, turns to show his butt, then walks back into the jungle not to be heard from until the next day when he repeats the process.  In between performances he's at the golf course.

Trump is fading by the day. Did you notice that he was fairly lackluster in Tulsa? It is possible he is suffering from some declining health issues, particularly after that "ramp performance" at West Point. He just may not be up to a second term. Regardless, he is facing the worst loss of his lifetime, and whatever they are dreaming up now, has no relevance toward a rosier and more promising future for America.

Another ongoing use of typically racist fascist ideas.

Don’t deal with the drivers of unemployment, economic stresses etc. just go and find scapegoats to blame. Then vilify and focus on them all the while preaching to the masses that were doing this to protect you and your way of life.

Looks to me the real dreamers are Trump and his administration.Election result in November. From November to January 20 Trump and his criminal administration will be to busy destroying all evidence of their criminal history to worry  about passing any new legislation, maybe a pardon for the Trump nepotism club would also be high on the long list of of self saving acts he will try to pull off before his trials start on the many lies and crimes he has committed against the American people and the oath of office he swore to uphold.

Once Trump loses, he will no longer care about appeasing his hardcore racist base.  He never much cared about them anyway, but wanted their support.  Besides, he'll be busy doing things like issuing pardons to his criminal friends.  He might even try to craft a pardon for himself....5555.

Just saw video of him returning to the White House by helicopter.

A man looking like the world had turned against him.

See what the architect of the "Dreamers" even said about his ability to just make immigration law by executive action.
When you start to pick and choose which laws you will obey, and which ones you will ignore the country is doomed and what Obama did was illegal and the Supreme Court even said as much in its ruling.  It just gave the lame excuse that the Trump administration did not give adequate justification for wanting to end DACA  That is a B.S. ruling since if the executive action was unlawful to begin with, ending it should not be a problem irrespective of the reason.  The "Dreamers" were nothing more than a wave of underage illegals deliberately sent to the USA.  As someone who lives in Thailand I would think that you would have a greater appreciation of the hoops you have to go through to remain here versus what you propose for he USA that just allow anyone and everyone to enter with no immigration laws whatsoever.

Wrong. The majority did not rule that DACA executive order was illegal but... It ruled that Trump has the right to revoke the order but that he must follow proper procedure.

And by the way, poll after poll after poll, shows that Americans, including Republicans, are overwhelmingly sympathetic to the plight of those protected by Obama's executive order.

You mean like in 2016? I wouldn't get too cocky yet unless you want to look like a complete horse's @ss in 2020. That being said, let's say you succeed in ousting the dreaded Orange Man. Congratulations, you just gave birth to a new wave of radical right-wing extremism. You got a doddering old careerist geezer, a virulent ethno-centric ideological base--congratulations on that, by the way--and an extremist right-wing element that is just chomping at the bit to be unleashed.

Hmmm... so electing Trump again will keep the extremist right wing drongos in check?.. is that what you are saying?
