Any gem trade experts out there have an idea where one might best peddle a 2620-carat emerald other than international auction houses?

Hm.. are you sure of the Carat figure, since that happens to be identical to a well know sculpted piece? I'm off the grid for a few days but back next week.

Regards

Hate to rain on your parade but what you have is likely not worth very much. Read this article. http://ruby-sapphire.com/dd_big_time.htm

You might also want to look at the bottom of this page which lists the largest documented emerald specimens to see where your find fits in. http://www.gemsociety.org/info/emerald%20buddha.htm

There is a lot more to value than mineral and carat weight (if what you have actually is emerald). The rock you have is about half of a kilo. It could be worth something but it is far more likely to be of little value. I would get it appraised by a couple independant labs. This would be necessary before selling anyway so you might as well go ahead and do it. The labs would also be a better source of how to sell your emerald if it turns out to be valuable.

Good luck.

The one I'm representing is in fact the one pictured in the Gem Society link. It has already been authenticated by one of Switzerland's top gemologists.
