Pattaya: Desperate to stay in Thailand! Foreigner on work permit violation flees police at the red light

A foreigner on his way to being deported from Thailand for working illegally fled from the custody of the Bang Lamung police at an intersection in Pattaya.

After a two hour search in which Pattaya police helped their colleagues, the man was nowhere to be found.

The Cambodian jumped out of a Bang Lampung police vehicle as he was being taken from Pattaya Remand Prison to the station where he was due to be picked up by officers from the Muang Pattaya police.

He was then due to be handed over to the immigration police for deportation after his case had concluded.

The drama happened at the lights at the Nong Kate Yai intersection on Sukhumvit Road in Bang Lamung District.

oh dear   !   an escapee on the run, i expect he was handcuffed. Is he considered dangerous ?

Now a manhunt is in progress to find the fugitive before there are fatalities.

You mean before he trips over while handcuffed and falls in front of a speeding vehicle?

I'm sure the police would put that down as suicide.

Offenders always seem to be left on their own on the back of a pick up. Saw a falang being driven along Beach Rd the other day in this mode.

Police made a recent arrest at my condo complex and a dozen police officers attended the scene yet the perp was driven away unescorted on the back of a pickup. Must be a Thai thing.

Some of the plastic liner trays that go in the back of pick-ups usually have large metal loops to secure rope to. Even without the plastic liner, I'm sure someone could fabricate a closed loop.

A handcuff on one wrist and the other handcuff on the metal loop would prevent them doing a runner.

picked up

Haha .. anyone else pick up on the  inclusion of that ..

Muppets... I hope they transport the guy who slashed the throat of an elderly lady shopowner a bit more securely.

But this would require a few operating brain cells.. ????

Wonder who gave him the work?

Sure not a Thai employer, they would not do that....leaves a farang having him work.

I better get my door locked with such a dangerous felon on the loose in the area - he might show up and tidy my garden or something without a work permit....

That takes a thought process !

In the US it would be a COVID death.

Just when you think Pattaya Plod cannot get more inept, they go and surprise you.

The disadvantage of this mode of transport is when said vehicle has an accident

I take your point. The arrestee's head could smash the rear windscreen of the cab.

Perhaps a large cable tie around the neck and through the liner metal loop then.

An excellent suggestion there. That incorporates the Thai Health & Safety at Work procedure too.

always surprises in Thailand    !!!

what about the report months ago......when a raid was carried out WALKING STREET.....and they found NO EVIDENCE of prostitution ????!!!

It's an Elf and Safety issue if he is handcuffed in the back of a truck and it's involved in a accident could be classed as suicide

Or the reported 'suicide' where the victim shot himself then removed the gun from the scene!
