The chief of Thailand's Anti Fake News Center has said that there were 90,000 fake news shares and posts daily in Thailand.

These had been brought down to around 20,000 thanks to the AFNC, said Maj-Gen Phanthana Nutchanat.

He warned people that they could find themselves on the end of a two year prison term and or 40,000 baht fine for violations.

He was speaking after 8 people were arrested for contravening fake news laws.

Most of the crimes related to proposing that certain things were good for staving off coronavirus or helping people recover.

One erroneously recommended cannabis oil, another krathom leaves.

Another suggested that the government pushed the whole online benefits scheme to gain access to people in order to tax them.

One man was even arrested for suggesting that the monkhood had decided to postpone or cancel death right now.

If there were 90,000 Fake News stories everyday and they take down 20,000 is that a day as well????

Given both are stated by day that means there were around 1/2 million still out there in the last week. With so many Fake News stories, I have never seen one. Must all be in Thai only.

Perhaps they used Thai math to calculate.

Nah, he must have been watching the film 'Fame' again:

Fame  |  I'm gonna live forever  |  Baby, remember my name

Another impressive and resounding triumph for Democratic Thailand's Ministry of Truth. Well done comrades....the people are now safe from duplicitous free speech and dangerous, unapproved opinions.

One of the problems is that most news is fairly subjective. Particularly that that is sensitive to government.

It's one of the reasons that Facebook is having such a great problem cleaning up its Act.

Not that the Thailand government has a monopoly on shaping their version of events. This is done the world over.
