I missed all the other equally interesting nearby countries - Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam,  Malaysia etc etc...

As well as the beautiful girls, yes, there still are plenty, my motorbike road trips.

It would depend where I ended up going.  If it was to the UK, I would miss everything about Thailand, bar the immigration rules, if it was to, say, the British Virgin Islands, I would miss absolutely nothing.

Do you do 90 day reports in the States? You obviously don't do them here in Thailand if you think you are a "guest".

Girls. Also when the thai baht was reasonable.

I have never owned property or a house and never intend to so thats not a consideration.

I haven't reached the stage of dribbling - yet. A few weeks ago, there was one in the Tops supermarket that had a tush so shapely ( and she knew how to move it ) I felt like lying down on the floor and howling like a dog at the moon.

I saw you. But, it was a ladyboy.

you obviously do not know me well enough to know what i obviously do or don't do.   but obviously

your style of posting is more on the confrontational side.

yes, i do 90 day reports .   I do not pay exorbitant rents or if an owner large property taxes.  I am talked

to very nicely when if ever I am stopped for a car check.  I am not forced to be politically correct every

moment of the day,  or heaven forbid am accused of looking at someone the wrong way.

That is just a small part of the list.   You are probably an american so that should be enough to get you

started on your debate rebuttal.    have a nice day.... ( american talk)

Most countries have Hookers .

Hookers in Brothels ,

Escort Hookers ,

And the most notorious of them all street Hookers .

For 50 years I didn't want any of them, and then I met Thai hookers.

And even now after I've tried many, Filipino, Viet and Khmer ..... I still want Thai.

However, one interesting fact of ownership, which you OWN in the US:

Property appreciation has been going up, up, up.

I was under the impression Florida property prices were broadly the same now as in 1990.

But agree the USA is the cheapest country in the western world.

If I were American, I'd probably never have left.

And had a life without sex (with women).

But maybe not Florida,

I'm more a redneck survivalist bunker in the woods kinda guy.

No I am not an American. You do 90 day reports and you think you are a "guest"??

I just wonder why you think you are a "guest" when you have to report to people every so often.

That is how criminals are treated.

You do sound like a decent guy, so I don't mean to be on the confrontational side.

In my case it is not what would you miss, but would do you, as I after decades IN LOS moved to Vietnam 2 years ago.

I really miss the ease of communication with the general populace and with the 'eye-candy' in particular. It will take me at least a decade to be Vietnamese language proficient enough to flirt with the cuties, or to communicate with people whose English is even worse (much worse) than those of the Siamese.

Secondly, there is nothing like Pattaya here in Vietnam, and now with the Pandemic even the occasional popping across the border for a week of fun is out of the question.

we are often referred to as "guests".     i used the term somewhat loosely , just like the word prisoner.

i think most people got my point.

BTW:  even living in a foreign country there are a few very intrusive forms that americans

are required to submit every year..... forever !

heck, a 90 day report takes minutes and can be mailed in (online often doesn't work) .

Certainly all countries have stupid bureaucratic requirements that suck.  IMO  the 90 day is

a piece of cake in comparison to getting thrown in a room and searched every time i returned to

the states in my younger days

I'm past it now, but I have yet to meet any hooker in any other country that matched up to Thai women in terms of looks and expense.  No, I have not been to the Philippines.

Not every IO allows reports by mail although most do, even supposed you live in the same street as your IO, why should you be reporting to them when you have not committed any crime?

When I first came to Thailand to stay in 2005, 90 day reporting was not compulsary, all that was needed was a trip to the border every 90 days, no money needed in the bank.

still the same, if you do trips every 90 days to the border you never have to do a 90 day report
800,000 has been required since late 90's ( and before that is was less) Only dif was it only had to be in the day you (1 hour before actually) applied, not 3 months before and god help us now, 2 months before and 3 months after an never dropping below 400,000

i would miss the '<deleted>' moments.  In no particular order..

some kid and parent going to the bathroom on the sidewalk, at noon

electric wires wrapped around everything during a storm

realizing he is offering a 10 baht discount as if this matters

one day in a hotel:  500 baht.  one month:  3000.  lol

100 people on a motorbike, on a motorbike, which is on a motorbike

some strange massive bug is on my face, and i can easily sleep afterwards

bus rides

when every scenario can turn into a drinking fest

35 degrees at midnight

realizing that there is a 90% chance a car will come around the corner as you are walking

realizing there is a 90% chance a motorbike will almost hit you on the sidewalk

realizing the family you helped is much poorer than you first thought

giving 20 baht to a student who acts like it's 100 million

getting a massage for 150 baht, tipping 50, and realizing you could do this every day.

buying shoes that fall apart after 1 minute, and not complaining or worrying about it

no water

no electricity...because i realize i need to relax, don't worry, find zen... ok

having a student spend 100 hours on a project for you.......

finding a $300 USD item at a second-hand shop and acting like 50 baht is about right

more fruit than you can hold for 20 baht

and...... i WON'T miss how almost every girl gets weirdly suffocating and paranoid 24/7

..............WON'T miss the dogs

.............WON'T miss how farangs tell you all their problems in the first 10-minutes.  don't care.

ok, enough for now

I rent a one-bedroom apartment in one of the smaller cities in the U.S. and my average utility bill is $68/mo., electricity and gas together. My 250+ mb/s internet is included in the rent of $985. The apt. complex is leafy, with lawns, a duck pond, a pool and other amenities. I don't want to be stuck with some damned house--too illiquid and too hard to move away if I get tired of where I am.

Your US room is 2.5x the cost of my house in Chiang mai.

Does your $1,000 include local tax?

You spend nearly as much on 1 room, as I do in the entire month for my 4 person family to live.

My maths is not too good, how much is your rent per month and how many bedrooms do you have ?

11,000bht for my 3 bed house in Chiang mai (google says $360).

40bht if I want to use the local swimming pool.

Odd , a few months ago you stated that you bought the property and have a mortgage .

*Your Post from another thread *

"My mortgage (7 years into 27 year term), purchase price 1M8, deposit 300k, 6-7 years repayments 350k.

I owe 1M150k ........... sure I could sell it for that.

You must have made a really bad purchase!

Yes, renting and buying are two very different things

when you die you don't owe any more rent, if you got a mortgage (death grip) the loan is outstanding

Not in my name, not that I have any money beyond monthly pension income.

I do own a bicycle and a 65" TV ....... that's about it ..... not bothered what happen to them after I'm dead.

A bit curious,

Why would anyone care if they have outstanding debt after death?
