Standards agency cracks down on firms for smuggling, selling low quality products

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) recently seized a cache of products that were brought into the country illegally through the National Single Window (NSW) system as well as a stock of low-quality goods that were falsely given the TISI stamp.

 

 

TISI conducted a check of 191 items that had been found through the NSW and found in late June that three importers had brought items that their import licemse did not allow.

 

The three companies are Juthawan Molitec, GH Lighting and Estima Tyre and had illegally imported steel products, light bulbs and tyres respectively.

 

Wanchai Panomcha, TISI secretary general, said the agency has also learned that Juthawan Molitec had imported products illegally five times between March 2019 and June 2020 and that all three importers will be prosecuted.

 

TISI has also ordered its team to check 36 online marketplaces to see whether the products sold through them meet TISI standards or not.

 

TISI also recently found two companies selling below-standard goods both online and in stores.

It also found 32,722 light bulbs and fans worth around Bt4.1 million had been given the TISI logo without permission. TISI also found low-quality bulbs and lamps sold under the brand MV Comm valued at around Bt50,000.

I have to say great news. What about the low products made in Thailand or is only foreign ones that are low standard.

 

I have to say having a trading standards style agency is great provided it is effective. I know it was a few years ago but the standard call was if you bought it as seen that was it.

 

I would only buy things from TESCO, Big C etc who would permit the return of faulty goods. Having this agency to be fully effective would give the consumer some faith and guarantees.

5 year guarantees on light bulbs someone is having a laugh lucky if you get 5 months

They are original BayRans.....

Selling low quality products? That'd be about 99.99% then. Made in China.

What's the Difference  Importing,Smuggling ,Selling Illegal Chine stuff, Whilst we have all Inferior stuff already made in Los.

There's a Standards Agency; in Thailand ????  What the hell do they do all day.  No, don't answer, clearly not a whole lot.

Last year I was looking around for a new kitchen blender.

Big C had a model that looked fine but on enquiry only offered a 7 day return, after that you had to send it back to the manufacturer... China!!
Downstairs in an appliance shop they had exactly the same model 100 baht cheaper with a one year guarantee, take it back to them with the receipt!

Glad you found a place with a lengthy guarantee. Sadly it is the few instead of the many places that does this.

When will the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) apply some standards to construction especially with regards to electrical and plumbing installations.  If standards are, or have been, applied the standards are in dire need of upgrading.

The glaring warranty labels on many appliances are misleading.  I have several in-line water pumps with a prominent label indicating a 5 year warranty.  when the pumps quit working,

as they often do, and warranty work was requested I was informed that the warranty was only for the motor not for the pump.
