Private sector shaken after 4 economics ministers quit ruling party

The private sector has been shaken by upheaval in the Prayut government, after four ministers credited with running the economy resigned from the ruling Palang Pracharat Party.

 

 

The Thai Chamber of Commerce expressed concern that collaboration between business and government would be affected after Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana, Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong, Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovations Minister Suvit Mesinsee and PM’s Office deputy secretary-general Kobsak Pootrakool quit the ruling party. Their resignations triggered worry they could lose their posts in a pending Cabinet reshuffle.

 

The board also urged the government to set up a centre for economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, suggesting the prime minister head the new organisation which should collaborate with the private sector for more agile operations.

 

Kalin Sarasin, the chamber’s chairman, added that the government should maintain remedial measures to help SMEs with their costs until the end of this year. The measures have been running for the past three months.

 

Meanwhile, he suggested that tax collection should be reviewed for cases outside the system. He added that social security contributions collected from employers should be reduced from 4 per cent of their revenue to 1 per cent.

 

The chairman also advised the government to reopen more border checkpoints closed amid the Covid-19 crisis and update relevant laws.

 

Finally, he urged the government to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) trade deal.

Begs the question:  Were they enticed to go or were they threatened in some way?  I don't see 4 resigning their ComMissions from the good ship Prayut as a good move when all is going so well for the regime...or is it??? 

looks like they all made the third and final payment on their villas in the south of France. 

 

 

The "watchman" was supposed to heal the rifts in the party but probably only changed the people receiving brown envelopes!

When I first glanced, I read it as 'ruining the economy'....

I think they see the writing on the wall.

 

Thailand, as well as rest of the world is going to be in for very hard times for next couple years.  They can't stop it and don't want to take the fall for it.

Its  more of a  submarine going down the Marianas  Trench

It was them being told what to do and them having seen true reality of the regime with its Privy council calling the shots. They were just toys that passed their time of being used on the brining ship. 

Who would want to be in a party with a Prawit at the helm? 

 

Looks like Somkid is toast, so these guys maybe beating Prayut to the punch.

Happy all you old retired expats don’t have the virus while the young people starve to death. Lockdowns make no sense except for the old people with a coin in their pocket that can stay home and don’t have to work. ????

While there is plenty of evidence that very many thousands of elderly people have died from this virus, I doubt that you can provide proof of young people "starving to death" due to covid-19.

 

However, I do think that there should be more emphasis on protecting the most vulnerable people (elderly and sick) and fewer compulsory restrictions upon those for whom the virus is not particularly dangerous (the young and fit).
