U-Tapao airport: Director says all regulations were followed in case of Egyptian soldier with coronavirus

The director of U-Tapao airport in Rayong has said that all regulations regarding Covid-19 screening were followed in the case of an Egyptian soldier who tested positive for the virus.

He is believed to be one of a group of 31 soldiers who went to a hotel in Rayong while their plane was being refueled.

Kritchaphon Rianglekjamnong said he did not know if the man who tested positive was the one who left the hotel and went to a department store in the area.

The screening took place away from the main terminal as the arrival was part of a "state aircraft" matter tied up with diplomatic clearance regulations.

In related news the Egyptian embassy was contacted and  police had to be called after the soldiers refused to be tested.

Probably but like in Thailand, Egyptian high up armed forces personnel don't answer to anyone, they do what they want, where they want, whenever they want.

Do you know who I am?

Do you know who my father is?

The smallest men often make the most noise.

If the Thai army can stage Bangkok boxing matches in the face of a lock-down, then they can allow visiting foreign army in transit to go shopping locally while their plane gets refueled.

Case closed.

There is a hotel specifically for the armed forces in the Utapao airport base with a popular restaurant attached to it. There was no logical reason for them to drive over 40 minutes to the centre of Rayong to stay there, let alone to let them go to a shopping centre and evening entertainment venues.

All of the schools are now closed in Rayong until the end of the week.

U-Tapao is a military base that allows some authorized civilian flights. In this case it was an Egyptian military flight, yet the all powerful and knowledgeable head of the Thai armed forces, claims he knows nothing about this visit. Guess it is about time he retired.

They should not have been allowed to leave U-Tapao - simple

Look at where they were in transit to.  That tells who was behind this.

Any countries thinking of invading Thailand come now. Apparently the Thai army are not in the business of monitoring foreign soldiers who fly into their air bases.

They're far too busy with their businesses in golf courses, boxing arenas, doing land deals with lowly-ranked soldiers, etc.

Any foreign army invading Thailand needs only to come at noon.  Only cafeteria staff are working throughout the land.

Then if you followed all the rules then the protocol is wrong. CHANGE IT NOW

This is disgraceful & you have my Thai wife exceptionally upset over this Government

stupidity. When she gets mad General, you better look out !!!

But OF  COURSE they were.

Seriously, they are shi**ing themselves over 1 case? They will just have to learn to live with it, just like the rest of the World, if they want to restart the tourism economy and get millions back to work

Even simpler  should  not  have been allowed in.

As a reminder, the individual (a soldier?) was reported as being asymptomatic. He may never develop the illness yet can pass the bug to others. But then he was also reported as being an aircraft crewman.

Apparently, they flew in after a indirect flight that visited 3 other Nations before Thailand, then flew on to China, and returned the same day.

So they actually breached Covid regulations  Two times at U-Tapao

There is a kind of ( they are Military - thats Ok smack to this )

Just saying

Thai fiasco reigns again... very embarrassing for the country.

I wonder if the 40+ days without infection will go down the pan if it's proved the infected soldier was out & about in public ?

This guy is so deep in the cow poop his eyes are brown.  31 Egyptian soldiers do not have diplomatic immunity,  sorry.  You finally got caught doing what you ego inflated folks do. You tried to hide the hotel they stayed at overnight   and the mall they had lunch at.

The problem is that the person that kept this mob in line has long since departed the building.

Will we even find out about it if it has gone down the pan?

And spoil what was a good run of 40+ days.... not a hope in hell, any infections emanating from this will most definitely be brushed under the carpet!

diplomatic clearance regulations

Says it all really doesn't it!!!

Clearly they didn't do the COVID test at the airport or do the 14-day quarantine that all foreigners must do, and one would assume he likely didn't have insurance for $100,000 or a fit-to-fly certificate...

So, when the Director of Utapao airport says "all directions were followed"...what exactly does that mean?
