Legalisation of UK marriage certificate for use in Thailand - any UK agents recommended?

Featured Replies

Asking for a friend (really).

I went through this process a few years ago with the help of my sister. It's somewhat long winded and I don't want to impose on her again for someone she doesn't know.

So, a mate who got married to his Thai lady in the UK some 20 years ago wants to get a Thai marriage certificate so he can switch to a marriage extension (lower financial requirements).

He needs someone in the UK who can obtain a copy of his UK marriage certificate, get it legalised by the UK authorities and by the Thai embassy in London and then ship it here to sunny Thailand.

He found Vitalconsular who want  260 Squid all in (55 for the replacement certificate, 150 to do the legalisation/attestation and 55 for a courier to Thailand). Anyone used them? Anyone got an alternative (lower cost)?

He's not short of a bob or two so 260 isn't a stopper but if he can save a beer or ten ...

EDIT If someone could also recommend an agent in BKK who can handle the Thai end of things, getting it attested by the Thai MoFA (does it need translation, I forget if we did?), even arranging his Thai marriage certificate (he's pretty useless when it comes to doing stuff here) that would also be very useful.

Does he have anybody in the UK that could help it with getting it done.

A copy of his marriage certificate can applied for online and only takes 4 days to get. See: https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate#more-information

Then after getting it they could help by doing the rest by mail. https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised

The steps for it all is here.

Normally the last step is for the Thai embassy certification most problematic for some people. It has to be sent the embassy and back to somebody to have it all mailed to here.

Info for the enabasst part here. http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/81905-Legalisation.html

He does have UK family, but in his own words they are <insert suitable expletive or ten> useless and couldn't organise a drinks party in a hand sanitiser plant. Hence the need for professional help.

@ubonjoe Does he need translations before going to the MoFA here?

Okay

Just a suggestion and maybe it could help somebody else.
