Popular Post Why Me
2 hours ago, singking said: Can some members explain to me why so many members hate Thailand and Asia so much? I doubt it's many. More like a small minority which is mad at their lot in life and taking it out on their surroundings, ergo Thais, and ranting on TV. And they are miserable for the same two reasons that account for 90% of all human misery: money and love. Money: You need to come here with it. Earning opportunities are limited for foreigners. You can't teach English to a comfortable retirement. Move here with savings and a steady income stream from annuities/investments etc. Trouble with some is that they let the stars in their eyes get in the way of seeing reality. And by the time they do they are forked and TV is the only outlet. And wretched Thais are to blame for all ills. Love: Foreign men and Thai women don't come from different countries. They come from different planets. It doesn't matter if she's a banking exec from a wealthy family which is the sort most TV men hang with or an Isaan bargirl who the occasional TV member will date out of the goodness of his heart. They grew up different, speak different, think different, react differently, laugh to/at differently, like different soaps, movies, celebs and on and on. Can these disparities not be bridged to a long loving relationship? Sure, but it's not easy. The odds are long. And when lovey-dovey gives way to dodging kitchenware, again blame the wretched Thais.
Popular Post Puchaiyank
I have experienced racism in most countries...kicked out of a nightclub in the PI because I was the only white...told not to come back to a service station in the US as it was for black patrons only...and so on... Chalk it up to ignorance and suspicion...low self-esteem and cultural differences... Just move on and ignore the racists!

I am 20 yrs difference and 20 yrs together w/my wife... as are many of my friends... that was why I said "some" - - I don't see anything wrong with any type of relationship between consenting adults...
Popular Post holy cow cm
Been here quite a long time and for the most part have an exceptionally good life and great family. You don’t have to love everything here, so it is your prerogative to voice it. A lot of us do voice opinions about the regime’s foul play of power control and seemingly bad decisions and the immigration hoop jumping which is absurd. So what! It is a hassle we have to bite our lips to do and we don’t have to love or appreciate it. Most of us long timers should be residents from open arms, but we aren’t, as they in the government have no love for us. Thai people are the best though. No other people I would rather be and live around. As for Asia, on general whole I love it, but I do not have to like the Chinese government or the herds of Chinese globing around as when before the virus hit. Their government made it. I never ever want to be in a CM buffet again with a group of Chinese. Got PTSD from that. So I despise the Chinese government but love as my favorites Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, ok of Malaysia and Laos. Philippines is fun as well. Even Myanmar is ok. But China no thank you and as I have done business with them before, I will never do any again. Terrible. I could say a lot about the USA as well at this time, but I don’t live there. My Thai family talks about the same concerns and complaints about here as we do. But it is not a perfect world and is not a perfect country, but for the most part most TV members dig being here.
kingdong
first and foremost people in thailand should realise they,re just guests,no ones forcing you to stay and you can be told to leave any time the thai authorities want to change the rules, its their country at the end of the day.however one thing gets right up my grommet is the behaviour of some of my fellow countryman ex pats, the white knights who think they,re a cut above the traveller who comes here for a couple of months a year, all i can say is what a shame we ( fa4angs ) don,t stick together like the thais do. Anyone that was in Thailand in the 1980's can tell you it has all been downhill. .. I left with my wife in mid-1980. Always thought I'd come back for a nice retirement. Not so sure I could tolerate it now, despite having adequate funds and owning a nice little house in Loei and having many relatives. I have 6 of my wife's siblings here in the USA that we imported about 8 years ago. It took 10 years before that to do it legally. Four are now citizens and two more will be soon. They do not seem to want to go back, except to party with old friends and relatives. OK. Being the oldest of the clan, I get Wais when they come over to mow my lawn, rake leaves and fix my car for free. Or loan them money. 3

Admittedly it was obvious a large portion of these individuals were, well, basically inept at international matters. Can some members explain to me why so many members hate Thailand and Asia so much? I read constant complaints about it being too hot, women are all prostitutes, the foods low class etc. It seems to be these same types of individuals immediately jump on board ALL anti-China rhetoric at the drop of a hat? Apart from me making the assumption that they could all possibly be weak-willed, apathetic excuses of males (you know the little finger analogy), that they came to these shores to revisit their colonial ancestry of rape, pillage and plunder, only to be found out as, well, children. So why are YOU here? Apparently everyone else 'came to these shores to revisit their colonial ancestry'. Why did YOU come? Oliver Holzerfilled
I've interacted with Chinese citizens and ethnic Chinese all over the world. I've spent a fair bit of time in Hong Kong as well as some time in Taipei and Macao. But I've only been to the China mainland once. Despite all the bad things their fellow ethnic Chinese (and some foreigners) say about them, the only unpleasant mainland-born Chinese person I've ever encountered is Traubert. ???? If I would drive "back home" the way many Thais drive here the police would stop me all the time. It would be expensive and probably it wouldn't take long before they would take my license. And because I started with the police in control I learned how to drive properly. And obviously it helped that most other drivers also behaved. I am sure Thais would learn how to drive properly very fast if the police would enforce the laws. But the Thai police is even too lazy to stop all the bikes (or even just one) who deliberately ignore the red light on many major junctions. How can we expect that they drive according to the laws if nobody enforces them?

spidermike007
There are multiple answers to your question. Number one. As we get older, we do not automatically become better versions of ourselves. So, unless we are making a real effort, or doing some sincere inner work, we tend to become grumpier and less fun to be around. Some of that is reflected here. Second, no matter where we move to, our selves follow. Greener horizons are fine, but we have to adapt to them. Third, it is all about perspective. Some just love to moan. Personally, I love most Thais. I find most friendly, warm, light hearted, humorous and pleasant. And I find the quality of life here to be fine. Infinitely better than back in the US, unless you are quite wealthy, and even then, you would still have to put up with the Zombie apocalypse, the sour and bitter attitudes, women who prefer to oppress their femininity, an overly PC culture, out of control inflation, and alot of other nonsense. Not fun! As far as the racism goes, I know alot of guys who are married to Thai women, and genuinely seem to dislike the Thai people. If you figure that one out, let me know.
