BANGKOK(NNT) - With news of sexual assaults on campus by teachers becoming more common, the Ministry of Education has launched a center for sexual assault victims protection to proactively suppress sexual assaults in educational institutions, decisively and swiftly.

The center will serve as the Ministry of Education’s central agency to tackle issues of sexual assault on campus, by promoting immunity and safety among students as a preventative measure, suppressing and solving existing issues while stopping newer ones, and providing protection and compensation to victims.

The center has so far received 16 cases, which have led to the revocation of teaching credentials, or suspension from their position.

The Minister of Education Nataphol Teepsuwan has stressed the center’s objective is to stop cases of sexual assault on campus, as schools are regarded as a second home for students.

Acknowledging the existence of this issue, the Ministry of Education has since early this year laid out measures to prevent and fight against sexual assaults on campus. Any witness of such assaults can report to the center’s 02-007-000 number.

If a society cannot and will not protect it's children, what does that say about the society, and the judicial system? Teachers here seem to engage in alot of abuse. Why the astonishing unwillingness to go after them? The fact that this so called central agency for sexual assault victims has only received 16 complaints so far, says alot. Scepticism?

When is the last time this administration has really done anything to protect and defend the poor masses, over anyone in any sort of a position of power? Can they be trusted? Are any of these people committing these offenses facing charges yet? Are they going to "man up", or are they going to continue talking, but not acting?

This is some very serious stuff. It needs to be addressed. It represents an incredibly toxic cancer within Thai society.
