Kingdom helps WHO provide lessons on controlling an outbreak

Thailand is helping the World Health Organisation (WHO) develop guidelines and teach other international bodies and institutions on how to prevent and control a pandemic.

 

In a five-day event, which kicked off on July 20, Thai representatives presented the nine key pillars used in the prevention and control of Covid-19.

 

Tanarak Plipat, deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department, said the nine pillars Thailand followed to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak are:

 

1. Coordination, planning, monitoring and evaluation at the national level;

2. Communication and community participation;

3. Surveillance, disease investigation and follow-up;

4. Blocking access to the country;

5. Strengthening the national laboratory system;

6. Preventing and controlling new infections;

7. Effectively managing patients, sharing knowledge, innovation and research;

8. Supporting operations and transport in the supply chain as well as human-resource management;

9. Maintaining essential health services despite the outbreak.

 

Though Thailand has not had any local Covid-19 cases for several weeks now, there have been reports of infected patients returning from overseas. Dr Sombat Thanprasertsuk, from the Disease Control Department, said that though these patients are being kept isolated in government-sponsored quarantine centres, cooperation from all sectors is still necessary.

 

Meanwhile, WHO has also selected Thailand and New Zealand to film a documentary on successful models for handling and controlling Covid-19, though the schedule of the filming is yet to be revealed.

I see mass testing of the population is missing. Cover-up. Well...maybe they can share notes. Good old Thailand. Fairly sure Taiwan did a better job. Just pitiful look at me nonsense. We've all known someone like this. Have to announce themselves to see who's looking at them or get people to look at them. Inferiority complex. Sad. 

And of course 4. Blocking access to the Country which will damage the economy, especially tourism which Thailand is heavily reliant on.

 

When will they ever learn?

If you want pitiful, look at the US response. And I'm sure the WHO will ask Thailand all the right questions regarding their testing protocol. Perhaps you missed the 7000-odd tests done in Rayong that could not turn up one positive case - there are no or very few asymptomatic carriers here now. And no detected positive cases.

 

Those nine pillars look like something pulled out of a textbook and applied to an exam paper.

In a country with a convicted  Heroin drug  dealer in a  high  position a  compulsive liar with 20+ watches a Pm who totally rigged an election.............you trust anything they say.

Thailands  world  famous for that????

WHO has a lot to answer for. When the news broke about the virus in China, they didn't close the borders and ground flights, because they suggested it wasn't a worry and that it doesn't stop spread. Obviously anybody with half of a brain can see that yes it would have helped to stop the spread greatly so.

You're absolutely correct there, WHO issued guidance that said not to ban international travel:

 

29th Feb WHO Guidance

 

"WHO continues to advise against the application of travel or trade restrictions to countries experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks."

 

"Travel bans to affected areas or denial of entry to passengers coming from affected areas are usually not effective in preventing the importation of cases"

Look, we have done well in Thailand. Almost too well.

The ridiculous panic after a couple of incidents in Sukhumvit and Rayong were concerning. Seems the local populace have a completely binary view on this.

-0 cases good.

-More than 0 cases very bad.

Unfortunately, this is what you get with an uneducated population, unable to develop a balanced position...

 

Been talking to many businesses in my sales job, hospitality is absolutely <deleted> until tourists come back again. Export businesses also in trouble as no one to sell too. This is really not helped by local hysteria (in an very positive context) over a couple of cases. Thank God/Buddha to date we had no major outbreak in Thailand, similar to Europe or USA, I think we really would see the wheels well and truly falling off.

They missed out number 10 , the most important virus deterrent.

 

Amulets.

 

Lots and lots of amulets. Statistics clearly prove this.

 

How many Americans wear Buddhist amulets ? Not many and they are paying the price. Statistics prove it.

Like many uneducated people, It looks like the WHO also has trouble distinguishing between Taiwan and Thailand.  

I can't think why the WHO bothered with the Thai government; the experts and all the answers are right here in TVF!

If Thailand is really doing that well to prevent covid, the government would have been a lot more confident in opening up the economy already.

I'd put it differently: points 10 to 20 of that list are missing. These are the guidelines to address the economic upheaval caused by the Covid crisis. All governments should take a wholistic approach to manage a crisis of such magnitude. While in Thailand you can observes what happens when the virus is ruthlessly eradicated in the US you can see the results of a dumb "business first" approach.

They can also give a lesson how to get away with murder in Thailand... much more trustworthy.

Lets not forget the charges after all these years and photos of the accident they drop the charges on the Red Bull boy today!  The leaders of this country got no shame, blowing smoke is a National pastime!????

Europe is getting a second wave now, just because they opened up way too soon. Save the economy BS. If they would have waited 2 more months, they've would have been fine. What's the point shut your business for 3 months, then open up for 1 month and you have to shut it down for another 3. Good luck with the 3rd and 4th wave.

Yes, they can learn from Thailand's method.

Opinions are like assh*%es everybody has one. If you hate Thailand and thier government so much. Go back to the country you hate and who hates you. Just saying...... 

The best control of the outbreak may have been if WHO chief Tedros has called for blocking flights to affected areas in January and February instead of condemning countries that did so and hurt his beloved CCP.

Can you imagine if the WHO came out and said Taiwan instead of Thailand....lol, that would be the end of them as far as the CCP would be concerned.
