Pattaya is smiling again! Top end hotels at 90% capacity for long holiday weekend

Thai media 77khaoded reported that Pattaya is beginning to smile again after the coronavirus pandemic.

They reported that domestic tourists were flooding to the resort for the long holiday weekend from today until Tuesday.

But their upbeat message from an industry leader was all about top end hotels, many of which remain closed.

They quoted Sanpetch Suphabuansathian, a senior executive at Anchalee Wiwat group that owns 9 luxury hotels.

Only five of those are open right now but they are running at 80-90% of capacity for the holiday. Most people have booked a two day stay.

The hotels are the Mera Mare, Z Through By the Zign, Garden Sea View Resort, Long Beach Hotel and The Zign Premium Villa.

Sanpetch said that people booking were Thais who would normally go abroad and those with families.

He cited Pattaya's proximity to Bangkok as a reason for the high bookings.

Elsewhere in Thailand - especially in tourist areas far removed from Bangkok - the news this week has been far less rosy with low bookings amid concerns that a second long holiday in a month has been too much for potential domestic holidaymakers on a budget.

Should be interesting to see.  I hope they come to help businesses.

But, normally the Bangkok tourists come in on Friday evening.

Yesterday evening seemed slow was not even a normal weekend crowd least to say a long holiday weekend.

I wish they would go to Patts, all my Ferang Chums up here are Bracing themselves for a Grand Kid invasion.

You are right. I know of a Thai family that tried to book into a hotel in pattaya, where the rooms cost 20K per night. The hotel was "fully booked" - at least that class of room was.

When they travel, they stay in the hotel grounds the full 2 or 3 days.

Somehow I don't think the typical inner Thailand 5-star tourists will walk around the "streets" especially not that walking street.

Nice try.......

I think the government discount is only for the rooms ????

This is the future; like garlic bread was.

Thais don't like to go out into the sunlight, especially the BKK vampire crowd. They'll start to smoke and will burn to death.

Yeah but at 40% discount. Let's see how full they are on non-discount days

That's because they are all enjoying their top end hotel room, where they are drinking sangsom from 7/11.  ????

The hotels listed in the article aren’t 20k per night...

Only the Mera Mare is in what I consider Pattaya - the others are way up in Naklua.

Beach was very busy in Pattaya, got busier as the day wore on. I noticed that A-One and MYTT hotels on Soi 3 were far busier than they have been.
