So when the young people protest, and the army move in to stop them, the army will use polite words and be respectful, dont think so.????

  • " a tearful army chief..."   Sorry, but why is he crying??? Was he not invited to Prayut and Prawits weekly curry and movie night?

He added that the government and Army still face various challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Apparently ,  they need an army to fight a virus they don't have whilst defending the country against invasion from countries that don't want to invade them !

Hmm, army chief, talking about discretion when exercising rights? Everyone is under Royal protection? Does that mean the veiled threats are just that, veiled? Royal protection wins.

Crock ... odile tears

This is the guy to watch in the near future, maybe the next pm.

Don't think he would hesitate to stomp on protesters.

Yes indeed, THIS is a person that everyone needs to be aware of for many reasons.

Crying  lol. Man up you the bloody chief

The army is the party that needs to behave itself and show respect toward the masses and the youth.

Peaceful protests benefit society. The army does not.

Any resistance to the protests will be interpreted as a heinous abuse of power. Their time in power is winding down. They just don't know it yet.

He is of course the very model of discretion.

There is a widely available video clip, of him indulging in what might be described as "kinetic discretion" against some demonstrators with whose viewpoint he took exception. Using boots, fists and brandishing a weapon - he actually had to be hauled away by cooler heads amongst his staff.

Wasn't crying though; maybe he has mellowed...

Thailand's military has a long record of being dishonest, go figure.

rights that require conditions to express/enact them are not rights

"The Army can only monitor the situation, while the government has only urged us to arrange officials to take care of protesters," he said. "The government's move to solve various issues is going well and many authorities are also providing cooperation, so if we are all united, we will be able to overcome the fragile point."

A veiled threat if ever there was one.

What....no tears?

You are right but peaceful protests just do not have enough impact unfortunately .

Then again violent outbreaks are not always done by the protesters if you know what i mean.

This country needs some clear heads, not corrupted by greed and hunger for power.

Time will tell.

Perhaps they do know it and simply don't care.

The dinosaur has had his cage rattled, better watch out!

The very last statement in the article is the most telling. Read between the lines. A portent of things to come.

Nutcase, more and more. And that's respectful.

The army is fragile.   The students are tougher.  If Thais want a less fragile country, they need to send the army back to their barracks.

The army is not one united voice.  Those they must love are not very lovable.

The younger, better educated, more forward looking soldiers who take off their uniforms and talk about their, and their country's future, may think more like the students than their dinosaur bosses would like.

I hope so, anyway.
