NAKHON SI THAMMARAT (NNT) - The Minister of Tourism and Sports has visited a local community in Nakhon Si Thammarat to promote local tourism. He assured the community that all foreigners who come to Thailand in Phase 6 of relaxed safety measures will be quarantined.

Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakan, Minister of Tourism and Sports inspected the progress of the Network for Community Enterprises and Farmers’ Community Tourism in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The minister also presided over a ceremony promoting roadside fruit markets in Cha Uat district. He visited booths that serve agricultural products and demonstrate various aspects of produce processing.

The minister eventually, joined a caravan of jeeps and tuk-tuks to Koh Khan subdistrict to see famous fruit orchards producing mangosteen, durian, and rambutan, along with tasting the fruit of a 200-year-old durian tree.

During the visit, he told news correspondents that any foreigners who come to Thailand during the 6th phase relaxation of anti-viral social measures, to be implemented on the 1st August, must be quarantined for 14 days on arrival.

  • Then the message should be "All people arriving in the LOS to be quarantined for 14 days", without the need to specify a particular group.

  • Another irresponsible comment from a government minister...tell that to the folk who rely on tourists for a living....there will be no foreign tourists even contemplating coming if they will be put in

Phase 6 of 4 already? Damn they are getting ahead of me...

I'd believe them more if they were scowling and pointing at a farang.

Sounds like a wonderful holiday, rather similar to the UK....

Tourists don't do quarantine!  look at the uproar in UK after the announcement on Brits returning from Spain.

Well, I can envision the delivery services delivering more than lunch and dinner.

Where are those quarantine hotels located...freelancers will be moving their operations...????

So he basically assured that there won't be any foreign tourists coming.

I hope he's referring to the tens of thousands of migrant workers arriving legally now from neighbouring countries. Though how these people can pay for ASQ I have no idea. Perhaps their employers will foot the bill?

I'm all for wearing mask in crowded and / or indoor public places, but really don’t see anything wrong with not wearing a mask out in the open air.

Again, this article ‘hints’ at xenophobic tendencies when specifying ‘all foreigners’ must be quarantined, when it really should be saying ‘anyone entering Thailand’...

If this goes thru, means the end of tourism in Thailand until.....
also as a side note
Burma, Laos & Cambodia are seldom destination countries for westerns but added on to a trip to Thailand.
this will put a stopper in tourism in the region..

Are Chinese considered Foreigners?

Chinese have nothing to do with this, it was the dirty farangs who don't shower and do not wear masks that are responsible for covid-19!

What do you mean ‘if this goes through’ ???

Quarantine is already in place for anyone entering Thailand.  The only change come 1st August is a slight opening in criteria for those who can apply for the Certificate of Entry and ASQ.

And yes - this has definitely killed regional tourism.

And that is for self-quarantine; i.e. at your own home as opposed to being parcelled off and imprisoned. Fair play though, and best way to stop it, but for how long me ole junta friends? One year? Ten years? It ain't goin anywhere. How long before you have to open doors in a non-anal way before your minions take to the streets in numbers?

This dirty farang alien won't be doing any of your quarantine and will be keeping the absurd cost in my pocket not your dirty one????

Seat belts ? Good to see Thai road safety etiquette on show.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. Go look at India to see how bad a pandemic can get if you can't control it in the early stages. India stupidly kept everything open, loose borders around Bangladesh and northern regions. Locked down too late when the virus was everywhere, and now have just given up.

Look at the UK. Didn't lock down, when the evidence from China, Italy was rite infront of them. Even as all of Europe closed down, they stayed open for a few extra weeks (because they thought they knew better). It's been horrific there.

Any loss Thailand will make from tourism, far outweighs the cost that would have been had the virus taken hold of Thailand, as well as the physical and well being of the population.

Yep, NST is on every world travellers itineray of a must do visit..8th wonder of the world

They don't want us anymore, up to them. It's sad that a virus has caused all of this, but it always was bubbling under the surface.

Don't think it's a hotel. More like a prison ????

Bye bye tourism...

Quote: A total of 9,835 flights are scheduled to leave the UK for Spain between July 26 and Aug. 31, which equates to a total of approximately 1.8 million scheduled seats, according to Aviation data analysts Cirium.

Thailand is not on the radar anymore... and that's just to Spain, Europeans are staying in Europe taking advantage of low prices and easy access.

Don't come then.

The cost of opening up willy nilly, and allowing the virus to run rife will not only destroy tourism, but will harm the local population. The cost of that risk far outweighs the loss of tourism revenue - which will still be very high.

"...all foreigners who come to Thailand in Phase 6 of relaxed safety measures will be quarantined."

Does this mean MOT will now have power to order the military, diplomatic, big business interests (I assume they fall under category of "all") to quarantine regardless. I find that very very hard to believe
