The Transport Ministry is getting ready to deal with 10 million cars as people return to Bangkok from the provinces once the July 24 to 28 long weekend is over.

Based on data collected during the period, some 7.27 million people, or 1.55 per cent more than estimated, travelled out of the capital using public transport, while 10.6 million cars drove in and out of Bangkok.

As per the ministry, 283 road accidents took place during the break, with 40 people dead and 226 injured. The main cause for the accidents was speeding.

Chaiwat Thongkamkoon, the ministry’s permanent secretary, has instructed all related agencies to closely monitor the situation and provide support for the higher volume of travellers by ensuring continuous traffic flow with the use of CCTV and using drones to survey traffic conditions.

More traffic lights, An active force monitoring traffic with chase cars, motorcyycles.  Radar speed detectors and implantation of new vehicles to have transponders.

Decent numbers with only 40 dead for that amount of vehicles on the road.

Why are people returning today, surely they would have done that yesterday, or maybe they are part of the hundreds of millions unemployed (possibly not an accurate number but most of TVF seem to think the whole country lost their job and are too poor to holiday).

9 million unemployed is quite a high number.
