Greed in full view here. Unbelievable comment .... ????

The greed is on the Chinese side with their zero Baht tours and fake temples and whatever other greedy idea to get the money here in Thailand of their own countrymen.

I disagree. This is a government agency that's responsible for encouraging tourism. Diverse businesses depend on tourism. Thailand competes with its neighbors, and countries throughout the world, for tourists, and not just the Chinese. This person was doing his job, which is to advocate for tourist-dependent businesses in Thailand.

They want best of both worlds. Tourist money is welcome but not the tourists themselves. A tricky one.

With the Chinese the opposite is true. They get the tourists but the money goes back to China (after the Thai generals and their pals have taken their cut to allow this to continue to happen).

Another reason that the wealth disparity in Thailand has increased so significantly since the coup. Bringing happiness to the (rich) people.

CHINA CHINA CHINA CHINA

The countries obsession with China is horrendous. This economic disaster Thailand is facing is because of China. Yet there they begging them to give them more.

Who is begging?

It isn't the country's obsession.

It is the leading group's obsession.

As in "us is us".

Asia Today: China, SKorea, Japan see upticks in virus cases

BEIJING (AP) — China reported more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday as the country continues to battle an outbreak in Xinjiang.

The 101 new cases was China’s highest daily increase in weeks. The northwestern region of Xinjiang accounted for 89, with another eight in the northeastern province of Liaoning and one in Beijing. Another three cases were brought from outside the country by returning Chinese citizens.

what has made no sense for a while is not allowing those with long stay visas to return promptly. Those with work permits and elite visas all finding it difficult because of the flight/embassy situations.

so many hotels have zero/very low occupancy so open them up with appropriate covid policies and charge those returning the current prices of 60k THB for 2 weeks quarantine

- gets cash in for the hotels

- gets long term stayers back spending baht

no problem also opening up to tourists who are also prepared to do 2 weeks quarantine.

I would  not consider Opening to short term tourists from any country at this point.

what's stopping tat or some thai tourism companies/groups/organizations from developing their own package tours to compete with the chinese-owned/operated tours?  surely the government through tat could develop thailand as a hub of indigenous tourism.  it takes more than just buying commercial time on cgtn to promote amazing thailand.

open a travel hubble-bubble between china and a restricted tourism zone on the islands - once quarantine procedures have been agreed upon.  have the bankrupt thai airlines begin selling package tours to the chinese that patronize thai owned/operated hotels and restaurants.  and of course include insurance cover and covid19 testing in the package.

Laziness.

Totally disagree with you.

Foreign tourism is necessary to boost the economy. What's tthe point if most of the money is going elsewhere?

ditto....all celtic boy sees is zero dollar tourists....there were a plethora of regular Chinese tourists that Thai people were making good money from pre-covid

China has friends  north Korea Iran .  I have no major problem except for the fact that they can not be trusted to be honest about covid and are in the middle of round 2 of the virus.

Personally I think the present plan is the best which is keep the borders relatively closed until the world gets its act together.

Test businesses could use the money but what happens when the Chinese tourist brings in round 2.
