PM Prayut predicts economy will shrink less than 10% in 2020

Featured Replies

erm... but Prayut is not very well educated. He has no knowledge of economics. And he is not very clever.  He is just an egotistical control freak with anger management problems. And a scared old man. So how can we believe his predictions.

PM's economy prediction expert: 1 ribbit equals 1%

Posted Images

Not exactly Nostradamus...

Most published estimates are in the negative 7% to 9% range (GDP decline). Worst in SE Asia.

2021 estimates are based on 2020 (depresssed) numbers, so are positive (4% - 5%).

seems to be a few drunken sailors in here today.

Well that is one explaination for the PMs prediction. He was drunk when making it.

However, I am sure as an army man he would be slightly offended at being called a "sailor".

Wait. The year is not over yet.

The economic impact comes in the 3rd and 4th quarters, when the Thais run out of savings and credit lines.

Many shopping centers, bars, restaurants, retail shops and hotels in Bangkok are empty. No customers.

Rents and installment loans can no longer be paid. Lots of empty shops with red for sale / rent signs.

Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Hua Hin, Pattaya partly like ghost towns.

Suvanabumi Airport empty.

Sales of new cars, motorcycles, TVs, computers, refrigerators collapsed.

With such a devastating global crisis, the major economic slump comes with a time lag.

Of course, the well-fed Thai elite does not notice this in their ivory tower.

I would not bet against that!

Not that I believe it- but I know, who will give out the numbers later!

I think hes secret gypsy! And PM's gran mother read hes hand! And you know old gypsy woman know everything!

Less than 10%? Tell that to the dear departed.

I was watching another grim, in-car suicide by asphyxiation on the Thai news yesterday. Mrs NL commented that it's a serious issue and growing day by day. A quick search reveals that this is an increasingly common method where a clay barbecue pot with burning charcoal is used in a confined space to suffocate the occupant.

Either that or a(nother) coup.

If he says so, the new Financial head will make it so. Sharpen up those pencils and keep the big erasers handy.

Bulltweety, I think 20 to 30% hahaha

Guess work at best!

The knowledge that numbers will be manipulated to match what he says.

Wonder how many would think he has strong economic fundamentals other than his ten for me one for you policy that benefits so few ????

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has predicted the Thai economy will contract less than 10 per cent this year, thanks to its strong economic fundamentals and effective handling of the Covid-19 outbreak.

So, with exports down about 20-30% this year, tourism - allowing for 1st qtr - down minimum 75%, he STILL thinks less than a 10% drop. Think this guy seriously needs to look at those prescription drugs - or go in for ego adjustment

Is that you Steven in disguise ?

5555 best joke of the day, guy should be a stand up comedian.

Weird huh!  It's like they are dreaming!  Come next December with a recession looming large they will have to come up with some magic numbers in the trillions baht to support the people and the country.  So far their willingness to help the people has been less than stella.

He tries to be like Trump...
