Ladyboy community suffering all over Thailand - appeals to government for help

A ladyboy performer has told the Thai press that their community is suffering greatly due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They called on the government to help ladyboys as they have no money and can't support their families.

The comments came as it was revealed that around 100 exotic performers at the Simon Cabaret in Phuket were laid off.

The show in Kathu district announced last month that they were closing temporarily with no reopening date in sight.

An unnamed performer spoke to Daily News after "farewell" songs familiar with the ladyboy community were posted on Tik Tok.

They said it was a very sad situation and the dancers were trying to support one another. They were unable to provide money for their families.

Everybody was suffering in the ladyboy performing community, not just in Phuket.

Their colleagues in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and other tourist places in Thailand were in dire straits too.

Their role was just one part of the overall tourism picture and others were suffering too, but the dancers are calling on the government and relevant authorities to recognise their contribution and recognise their plight.

They said that they had limited opportunities for  employment and needed help in these dark Covid-19 times.

The 500 Simon Cabaret first opened in 1991 and is a well known tourist attraction on the island in the south of Thailand.

What a bummer.  Maybe they could get a temporary job to tide them over.

Maybe the "high end" tourists will save the lady boys.

Stay tuned to tomorrows episode of "As Thailand Burns".

Next we'll hear about thieves in Latin America suing their countries' tourist departments for ruining their business, as there are no tourists for them to rob.  Maybe someone like Bezos will buy Ecuador.

Maybe you're on to something.  We can all sue each other in an endless circle and see what happens.

It seems as though every 7-11 in Thailand employs at least ONE ladyboy. If they aren't too flamboyant, they can usually find some kind of work.  I hate to see anyone starved out of existence. Ironic that Thailand is doubling down on visa regulations to make it difficult for their farang "cash cows" to live here. It is always "ready, FIRE, aim". in Thailand. Absolutely NO thought given to the consequences of actions.

Their qualifications are irritating foul mouthed attention whores.  Start a youtube channel.  Do all the classics 'eating mama' 'go out and buy ice tea' 'get ready with me' 'what in my bag'.

You will make a small salary.

No need to be so negative. Katoeys also do ordinary jobs, and they are in many occupations.

Just because the most visible are those in night life does not mean they are a majority.

I understand that they get their boobs on credit, so perhaps they are worried that if they don't get some money the docs will be looking to get them back.

This thread has to take the cake for ignorant, ill informed, judgemental and outright nasty posts.

If posters don't know that ladyboys are throughout Thai society doing all sorts of jobs they need to think again and find out a few facts.

They will need tourists even for getting short or part time temporary jobs.

The parasitic men who made a wrong bet on a tourism-related prostitution. The last group of the population who will deserve my personal compassion.

P.S. We are talking here about those involved in the Pattaya and Phuket nightlife. Not about transgender scientists, highly skilled engineers and other Nobel prize winners.

I don't think I've agreed with any of your posts up to now, but I will always give credit where it's due.

There also seems to be a few of them in the hairdressing business, but one would of course have to attend the training to become qualified.
