Brit, with British passport, 72 years old, not married to Thai mother of his child, 14 months old and carrying his surname, at present lives on a tourist visa valid till 28.04.07 to be extended by another 30 days. He’s fed up with TVs, wanted me to explore his best possibilities visa-wise for future stays in Thailand, however lives on a fairly small state pension and wants to learn about his best options to him.

Told him to get a multiple Non-Immigrant O visa from Hull, easily available and no money requested, where only a letter would have to be signed that he will come up for his expenses. Travels back and forth to England about two times a year. Next journey to England coming up on 22.05.07. His TV’s so far were all issued by the Cardiff Thai consulate.

He heard and asked me, if I could confirm that he could get some visa on grounds of supporting a Thai child, which I do not know of, but would certainly be a good reason for Thai visits while filling in his application.

I want to help this less fortunate guy. What are this buddy’s best options? Thank you for your detailed answers.

For regular visits a non-o (multi) from Hull is a good plan.

If he wants to remain in LoS long-term he should be able to get an extension based on living with his Thai child, there is NO financial requirement for this extension :o

Check out this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=117250

EDIT He is currenly in Thailand? He may have time to convert his current visa, at a minimum he should be able to get at least a single entry non-o in KL or Penang and avoid the hassle / expense of a trip to the UK.

....could get some visa on grounds of supporting a Thai child...

If he wants to get annual extensions for this, he must obtain a court decree legitimising his child. Sunbelt's fees are very reasonable for this. Armed with this, he should be able to stay here for good without having to prove his financial status.

Retirement Visa? :D

5555 The UK state pension barely makes it to 25k Baht per month (we have to assume this chap doesn't have the funds to top up this meagre pittance) :o
