Viral video: "Former police colonel" rages at Don Muang gate staff - computer smashed

A video going viral on Thai social media shows a couple furious with staff at a gate at Don Muang airport on Saturday evening about 6 pm.

They are furious that they were not allowed to board claiming they were only 30 seconds late.

After an angry exchange of words the man picks up an airline computer and smashes it in a rage.

A fanpage post suggested he was a "colonel in khaki".

This was only partly true.

Later the Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol Col Krissana Pattanacharoen told the press that the man in the incident is a former colonel in the RTP.

He resigned in 2014 to go into private business.

The airline has filed a report with the Don Muang police, he said.

Apart from that, this case has nothing to do with the Thai police.

He urged the public to keep their cool.

Online comment was rife, said Sanook, with the great majority of posters saying that you should get to the airport two hours ahead of time and wait.

It's not like taking a bus or a train, they said.

Looks like his female traveling partner was giving the staff all the lip and he wasn't saying much of anything. She storms off then comes back and maybe says to him, "Are you just going to stand there? Aren't you going to do anything?" After which he grabs the monitor and smashes it on the ground.

Now he has affirmed his manhood, he can go home and do the dishes.

obviously the staff didnt know who he was, loss of face and a typical thai male temper from a self indulgent richard cranium. Lets see how this plays out, being an ex cop he will probably get away  with it though as he is probably wealthy being an ex colonel in the police force, must have taken quite a few kick backs over the years as per usual

Disgusting behaviour and I feel sorry for the gate staff, who bore the brunt of this a-hole when it's not their fault and not in their power to do anything to help them. And let's face it, it's a domestic flight, so even if they lose their fare it's not much... but will need to add the cost of a monitor and some '500B wais'.

I hope he missed an important 'meeting' in which he was due to get some kickbacks! 555+

At the very least, the staff could have called the airport police.

Oh, wait...

Not sure but perhaps 'closed' is generated from their central operation centre and then instantly  appears on the monitors at the gate, rather than a personal decision of staff at the gate.

In fact it's logical there would be a step by step detailed process to ultimately/progressively/quickly get the aircraft off the ground.

That's a monitor, not a computer.

Fragile male displaying his Thai manhood!

Yeah, but this self entitled bozo and woman sidekick at least made it past the first step check in getting boarding pass either from the counter or the automated machine and then messed up after that. normally that is 1 hour prior to take off and that  there is enough time to get on the aircraft. I too same as you also presume the staff have nothing to do with the we are closed signal.

haha oh yes they do - remember the 100 who refused to go into quarantine? - if they feel slighted by those 'beneath' them. kudos to the staff for standing firm and applying the rules that apply to everyone.

this sort of behavior is rife at airports in thailand, a friend used to work at check in for air asia, the attitude of 'entitled' thais could be awful, foreigners rarely posed problems

Good points. Yes they had obviously got past check-in but seems they were slow to get to the gate and arrived there past the closing time.

It started with the upstart missus of the couple, she seemed to be the one ranting... the guy smashed the monitor as he was walking away... just to make himself look good.

I hope the airline in question sue them for damages and bans them from flying with them again.

How about a full face picture of the suspects - like all the other low class suspects?

Expose him and his shouting companion.

He is like "My wife will remind me for not having done something years, I better break this monitor".

OK, I'm taking bets...

How long before the two idiots file a defamation complaint and request a computer crimes act charge for the making of the video and having it published?

Based on the report on the news last night it wasn't just a case of boarding had closed. The plane had actually disengaged from the passenger rampway and was taxiing out onto the runway when they arrived at the final checkpoint. Staff couldn't have done anything even if they wanted to. The other point to consider is that they would have ignored EVERY call over the p a system for passengers so & so to go to gate ? as boarding was closing.

Unless he’s hit by a Ferrari, and dragged around under the car-lots of baht involved

I bet he never said “do you know who I am!”

I believe this is a typo error.  I am sure it should read "He resigned in 2014 to go into private another business".  That would make more sense.
