Myanmar men jailed for murder of British tourists on Koh Tao taken off death row

Well that is at least a step in the right direction. I rthink anyone with any sense would see the vantages of commuting the death sentence.

There are various possible outcomes in this case. One day evidence or confessions may turn up or whatever...

They may one day be completely exonerated - so if they were dead, that would be rather embracing.

The way the crime was handled actually means that other they are in reality guilty or not, they should have been released after police incompetence, coverups evidence tam[ering all of which just reflects badly on the police and the island of Koh Tao - now "death Island" to many.

Sentenced to death first and then taken off death row ... ?

There were a lot of doubts about them being guilty of that crime ... many think they were scapegoats for the real murderer , may be a member of an influential family on Koh Tao ... their guilt has never been proven 100% .

But . if the real murderer would have been a Thai national , it would have damaged ' Thailand's reputation ' , a ' loss of face ' .

That cannot be allowed of course .

Anyway it will never be proven beyond doubt who killed the british couple on Sairee beach ...

Even if they were guilty, no proper legal system could have convicted them after the way the case ws handled

Since when has Andy hall been a lawyer, let alone one practicing in Thailand?

Andy Hall isn't a lawyer.  He is just relaying the fact the the BBC article has been corrected at the request of the Thai lawyers for Wai Phyo and Zaw Lin.

This statement has appeared on both Andy Hall's Facebook page and his Twitter account.

I doubt it , the authorities were never interested in justice and finding the real culprits , their only interests were to make sure foreigners did it on no Thais did it

If evidence contrary to what was erroneously presented ever came to light, which is impossible anyway, it would be immediately swept under the carpet.

As for incompetence, cover-up, tampering etc, as far as those in-charge are concerned, it's all completely above board, just ask them if you need confirmation.

But you are correct, an utter shamble from start to finish - unfortunately, normal in LOS.

You realise that is an oxymoron?
