Road Trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin

Featured Replies

I am thinking of a road taking a road trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin in the near future.  I travel between Pattaya and Bangkok frequently but have never taken a trip down the Western Seaboard.  Would I expect to find police checkpoints similar to traveling in Isan on the way from Bangkok to Hua Hin?   Has anyone made that trip lately?

I regularly do that trip, it  really depends  on the day you come and time, most  likely there  will be  NONE  but  on some days you can have 1-3, there  are never  any for the bulk of the trip , most  occur closer to Hua  Hin.

I  leave Bangkok at  On Nut,  there  can be a random breath test at Bangna  sometimes at NIGHT, they also sometimes  like to check you joining the tollway coming back as you get to Bangkok.

Theres  another one occasionally about 2/3rds the way down and back and  I often  get on the road thru Hua  Hin and there has been one  on entering Hua  Hin.

Id  say for every 10 trips down you might get caught in one twice.

When I travel in Isan with Thai friends we run into check points and invariably we hit a check point and because my friends are younger the police make them get out to take a urine test.  Does this happen in those checkpoints you mentioned on the way to Hua Hin from your experience?   I would be traveling mid day during the middle of the week.  I'm not really concerned in breath tests, but that is a new one I have not seen yet and I have traveled extensively in the northeast.
