'PM keeping a close watch on brewing political tensions, will open forum for youth to air views'

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha

 

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is closely monitoring the political movements in the country, whether in the House of Representatives or demonstrations, and he believes that all parties should refrain from provocative acts that could lead to violence, said Deputy Government Spokeswoman Traisulee Soranakul on Saturday.

 

 

The premier has also consulted all parties to seek ways to settle the simmering political tension and will also open a stage where the young generation will be invited to air their views on where they want the country to head towards, she added.

 

She said the premier is hopeful that the House would use its tools to solve the current political tensions on the democratic process. He also urged all MPs to do their best to bring the country out of the polical conflict, as the political problem should be solved within the House.

 

The premier also insisted that he did not order police to arrest students or activists holding the demonstration as he has no authority to intervene in police duties. He said that what had happened is in line with the related process and the police discretion, she added.

 

Groups of university students have held a series of demonstrations to demand that the government dissolve Parliament, amend the charter and stop intimidating people who hold different opinions.

The article title states 'open forum' and the text states 'open a stage'. I'd like to know just what means the Government intends to employ to hear and debate the views of of young dissenters.

 

Will the 'events' be truly open in the important senses of open agenda, open attendance and open to public scrutiny? I expect the answers will be no to all three. Some carefully controlled, much restricted and behind closed doors event is the most to be expected.

 

Those irksome and rascally students think they get away with this ‘free speech’ nonsense.

 

But the Hero General’s “Subversion Detection Goggles” (new arrival from China) give our fearless leader the latest, state-of-the-art, sophisticated technology to maintain his razor-sharp authoritarian edge…

Back on 5th August I posted a comment with my usual sarcasm saying that, "he wouldn't be able to hold a discussion with anyone who knew their own mind. He's only used to giving orders.":

Since when has that prevented our glorious leader or the police doing what they want to suppress arrest students?

In June 2014 we had the PM hating George Orwell's 1984, with those reading it charged with 'eating a sandwich with political intent'.

You couldn't make it up - oops, my mistake, they do.

There is freedom of speech, but not necessarily freedom after speech. Expect a few more arrests in the coming days. ????

That's a very good cynical observation.

More good work by our PM Khun Prayut. He's explaining to the public that if you must protest do it within appropriate guidelines as not to cause fighting or trouble. Let's hope the students aren't late for class .....

Steven , how can you honestly claim within appropriate guide lines?

Your pal does not understand the meaning appropriate guide lines.

The guidelines are not appropriate though, he cannot tell people what not to protest about

Yep, just like plodprasod in the recent past, insisting that anybody who attended open hearings about the environment, flooding etc., etc., must gie their name ID no., address etc., and many refused entry to these public hearings because they were known to object.

Democracy, freedom of speech not allowed.

Yes, I particularly liked the bit where he said he would listen and then asked who’s funding the protests and what’s their real motive. Time to step down, Tu. 
 

 

 

The PM is the head of the police, army, government and just about everything. He took up the Chairmanship of the Economic committee, COVID and ever other major committee, to show he is in charge and the buck stops with him. So economy has been going downhill since 2014, when he lead a coup, corruption at all levels is up. I can see nowhere that he or his government has improved the lives of its citizens.

 

I can see the food lines, the police corruption, the political corruption and how the entire world now views Thailand.

 

Google "1976 Thailand Student protests" and you will see the future if things don't quickly change.

 

That about sums up Thailand current situation

Translation: he will pretend to listen to you, and then dismiss everything you have said and carry on exactly as he has been doing for the past six years. He is famously short-tempered, though, so maybe he will even lock a few of you up (or worse) for having had the audacity to criticize him and his regime.

Banning the FFP was a big mistake. OK, maybe they wouldn't change anything, but the younger generation at least had a voice. Now you have a steam boiler with no relief valve.

actions speak louder then words, free speech,  democratic elections and new constitution were the top of their agenda..., you didn't listen before and you want them to believe you will listen now, you kidding right?

Also in the mix is that many students have a poor opinion of the other aspects of 'the top' and the influence on the PM. And probably in the mix the PM frightened of you know who.

Gather them together in one location and identify all ... 

He still just can not fathom out what he did/does wrong and why millions hate him. 

Unlike 1976 people now have access to much more information. Dangerous for the 'elite'.
