14-day quarantine may not be enough, says virologist

Featured Replies

It reminds me of when the football transfer window would open in England & just about every media outlet & talking head would connect nigh on every decent player with a move to a rich club & then if one of those moves actually happened then they would report & point out how they had called it in advance whilest of course leaving out the very many calls that they got completely wrong.

They love nothing better than patting themselves on the back & telling all & sundry about how clever they are.

See you next Tuesday , the lot of 'em.

The media hysteria is fuelled by the need of so many ‘experts’ to have their moment in the spotlight with ‘maybes’  !!!   In decades and generations this whole saga will be taught as a case

There is another possibility. The testing is not up to scratch, giving false results, both positive and negative.

  • Interesting to see how all over the world scientists want their daily dose of attention. They only get attention by telling their opinion: The virus is more deadly, the virus is more harmless now

The virologist said in a study conducted on 212 patients, he found that 6.6 per cent of them showed symptoms four to 12 weeks after they were allowed to return home.

Ok well let's slap on a 24 week quarantine then to be sure, ASQ hotels will be very happy. Add a 500k baht entry fee on top just, you know, because. And of course a few hundred pages of due diligence. That ought to bring in the tourists in droves.

And all because of a virus with IFR barely above influenza.

"Thailand has been free of local Covid-19 for more than 80 days"

Lol. If you don't test, guess what? What a bunch of numties.

I am happy to see that the majority of posters here have common sense and can see how absurd this is.  I was locked out for 5 months.  Have had to isolate 3 times in those 5 months due to traveling to different countries, and have had 4 covid tests thus far.  After my second test in BKK that was negative, I still had to remain in lockdown for another 4 days, to complete the 2 weeks quarantine.  Then, the nurse told me to watch for symptoms for another 2 weeks.  Its totally absurd how the incubation went from 3-5 days, to 14 days, then on to 28 days.  Complete madness how they are treating this like its embola and people are bleeding out in the streets.  The inmates have taken over the asylum.

• The incubation period of the Covid-19 virus is usually two to seven days, but can also take as long as 14 to 21 days. “So, those who have already undergone 14-days quarantine are advised to self-isolate themselves for another 14 days to ensure they don’t spread the disease,” he said.

BS... Even T.A.T who take advice from this guy have said up to now that any  tourists coming into the country must quarantine for 14 days and then can travel....

They make this sh*t up on a daily basis depending on which way the winds blowing!

On one hand you have those involved with tourism who want to open up the country safely as soon as possible. On the other hand you have virologists, in particular this guy, instantly recogniseable with his grey hair, who are coming up with the worst case scenario in most cases.

Both parties are doing their jobs and trying to protect people in their own ways, whether by trying to get tourists back and kick-starting the hospitality industry or pointing out the problems associated with COVID-19.

What we're not seeing is the happy medium. It's all extremes. And that's no good for anyone.

Poovorawan should definitely do a test run of 3 months completely isolated in quarantine, and Thailand would be a better place for it ????

Two weeks are enough everywhere in the world. Is Thailand "different" again?

my theory is:

most people overhere already got it, and got over with, with no to little signes (a cold)

sun (vitamin D + UV kills virus) + high humidity (virus loved cold dry air =  airco here or dry heat air in cold countries)

but testing 1000 people randomly in EVERY province is not worth it for thailand

because they want to be top destination ( woehahaha) with 14 days locked up in an expensive hotel room, 100k insurance (but not for myanmar, laos, cambodia slave labour)

Looks like Schofield is on commission these days ????

TAT will soon be rushing out plans for tourists to quarantine for 21, 28, 35 or just pick a number from a hat number of days. Say goodbye to the tourism industry.

We said goodbye to the tourism industry, ages ago. These soldiers just don't have a clue, time they went back to their classes at the military academy. Oh! Wait??

I am getting quite bored of this guy now.

He is really milking his 15 minutes.

In decades and generations this whole saga will be taught as a case study of how we listed to flawed and uncertain information and played Russia roulette with our economy.

Look at this news - 14 Day Quarantine ‘may not be enough’.....   1 potential case with an almost infinitesimally low viral load, basically dead RNA, recorded...  1 Person of country of 77 million - potential 25% unemployment.

Thats 20 million people going hungry, even if the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s 25% unemployment projection is 5x too high, what about 5% ?? that still 3.85 Million People unemployed which is still devastating to a society with very little social welfare.

Open up the borders - Allow Tourists with a Covid-19 test.

Test arrivals and track and trace.

There will be further outbreaks - but really, is it that bad ?????

the US is quoting 170,000 Covid-19 deaths (in 6 months so far) yet 2,840,000 people die each year anyway.

How many of these deaths are ‘extra’ deaths ?????

We really need unadulterated facts - not this media frenzy fuelled by a political stance.

Far more people die on the roads every year in Thailand than will ever die from Covid-19 here.

Wake and smell the coffee generals

Sounds like the rich aren’t making as much as they want from their hotel quarantine scheme so just add another weeks stay !
££££££££????????????

Ah.....No tourist no problem....New cash cow coming soon to a Quarantine near you

Absolute moron. The sooner Thailand has an outbreak a la Vietnam the better, make them wake the ### up and realise elimination in a country with Thailand's geographical position and transit role is a pipe dream

I quarantined for 21 days back in March, and then stayed cautious for 2 more

weeks. When I seen my family doctor, he advised me that was the best thing

to do. I was fortunate not to have caught this virus, and the doctor has lost

both friends and family members to this virus.  I have been fortunate that so far

my family has all been healthy. Being over cautious has not caused as many deaths                        as being reckless.

Geezer

Simple. Everyone takes a course of Ivermectin triple therapy

starting before they leave.

This should kill it 100% !

If that link doesn't work try this one.
