Schools urged to give students a channel to voice opinions

The Office of the Permanent Secretary for Education has written to schools that fall under the jurisdiction of the Education Ministry to provide platforms for students to voice their opinions.

This move is in response to the “Bad Student” protest on Wednesday (August 19), in which students called on Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan to change the Thai education system.

The letter from the permanent secretary urges schools to establish platforms so students have the opportunity to discuss issues that bother them, while principals should ensure students’ safety and freedom.

The letter also called on school administrators to submit their suggestions or complaints to the educational service office in the area, which will then be transferred to the Bureau of Integrated Educational Affairs by September 15 before it is handed over to the ministry for consideration.

In relation to students’ complaint about being forced to cut their hair short, the ministry said it is considering this regulation but is holding off on any immediate changes.

Claire as we know doing that anywhere else in the world is assault and they certainly wouldn't be teaching again....

They want to take pressure out of the protest movement by admitting very little, while they throw their leaders and the leading activists in jail. Hope the students and pupils understand this game and don't give in.

We hear you.  You terrify us.   We are going to do nothing hoping you will forget it or that the military wet blankets will intervene and save us.   The yellows caused all this trouble.

Which it is doing with every issue, holding off any changes.

Schools giving a platform for freedom of expression will never happen, the directors are in the governments back pocket, puppets of the regime who tell the directors what to teach the students.

The worm has turned and will keep on increasing.

Apathetic parents have done nothing for years, so now students are saying it's up to us to make a change, it's their future !

Hypocritical. Already on the books changed the hair policy supposedly to give kids more freedom to personalization and self esteem. Nope, majority of all schools do not accept and adhere to the new policy and force the militaristic hairstyle on the boys and other cuts for girls. The policy is to desensitize them by trying to daily brain wash them into being little quack a ducks following the held carrot professing love to the regime and all they stand for. My kids and their friends have not fallen for it as most of all Thai kids nowadays..

I think they gonna stomp these kids down one way or the other having the order coming down from Ole Fat Head at the top and his regime.

Schools?

Government protest is not a children's activity. Common sense tells you that.

University students, well they are all adults, so fair enough - but leave the kids out of it!!
