HI,

I am putting some plans in place just incase i get the notice from employer that i will be getting released. I am currently on a Non-Imm B visa through employer with a work permit. If I get the 1 month notice to terminate contract, my thinking is to marry my long term girlfriend (with kids) and ask the company to help me in the process of changing my Non-Imm B over to a marriage visa. The reason for doing this whilst still employed is to avoid the requirement of 400,000K in the bank which i do not have. I would just have to show 2 salary slips of a monthly income of 40k plus which i qualify for.

For those with experience in this situation, do you think this option is viable and do you see any pitfalls?

You would not be changing visa categories. You will changing the reason for your extension of stay from working to marriage.

Unless you are still working for the company immigration will not accept proof of your 40k baht income by showing proof of tax payments on it.

If you were able to change from working to marriage before you job ends then it would be possible.

HI, yes i am still working for the company and there is no indication from them that they want to release me but under the circumstances with the economy, anything is possible. THis to me seems to be the way forward then. Thank you

Immigration status under marriage would be a better option as your permission to stay would not be linked to your work.

I would change it anyway.

Do you know what is required to change from my side. I spoke with HR and they seem pretty clueless on the topic. They will no doubt contact Immigration near the time but it would be good for me to know in advance

You will need all the required documents and etc to apply for a extension of stay based upon marriage.

Here is my general list. Marriage Extension Requirements 2.pdf

Ubon Joe,

I may be in a similar situation. Does the marriage certificate have to be Thai or can it be a US marriage certificate properly translated and all? We will have been married 30 years this May.

It can be in English or translated to Thai but to apply for the one year extension you will need a Kor Ror 22 that is issued after you register your foreign marriage at a Amphoe. Have you done that yet?

Thanks Joe,

While waiting for your reply I did google that information. No I would need to do that but should not be a problem. I am on the house book now as well.  I have had a job related visa for the last 28 years, but I do believe I am going to be retired involuntarily in May of this year. We own our house, a condo and 1 rai of land here in Bangkok that is all free and clear as well.

Thanks so much for your prompt answer. In 9 months going into uncharted water, but have been following here in TV for years so pretty sure I understand it.  I am also looking at doing a Permanent Residence Certificate...

You need to check with the local Amphoe as to what they require.

You marriage certificate has to be legalized, translated to Thai and the translation certified by the Department of Consular Affairs in Bangkok.

Again thanks so much. I have been through the Thai bureaucracy once before in getting all my twins birth paperwork done and US passports issued.

The pitfall I see is that your plan is good for about 1 year.  After that one year you'll need to either show 400K in the bank or have a record of a year's worth of income over 40K (but your quitting your job).  The other option - that isn't an option at the moment - is to cross the border to obtain a Multi-entry Non-O.

So you'd be good for one year.  Then what?  Just saying...

Can anybody tell me how long the appointment confirmation from the embassy takes? I have made a booking last month and received a reply last month saying that the appointment reservation request has been received with the details. However, it says it is unconfirmed and to not make travel arrangements until an agent has contacted me via email or phone. This was 2 weeks ago and the appointment date is 2 weeks away!

British

Did you send them the documents they require to check? They don't make it very clear IMO (I also was in your situation), but they want to see the filled in form and a few other things before they will confirm the appointment.

Not sure how it works for an appointment at the UK embassy.

I assume you have looked at this page. https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad/y/thailand/opposite_sex

You can also the application online now. A link is shown on the above page.

Thank you for the email address. I have sent them an email for help and further instructions before i just send all my documentation. I hope this will all be within the time frame until the appointment. It really is a <deleted> show process and unclear. Did <deleted> Boris Johnston think this one out or what??

Ubonjoe: Thank you for the help. I did notice the online application process this morning so yes, this must be a new process (probably because they released BORIS <deleted> UP AGAIN!!). I am concerned that if i do this now online, i will reset the process and get a new date and i have all the days booked off with work already. I also feel a sense of urgency now to get this done!

Regards

Hi All,

I just checked out UBONJOE'S list. As i am still currently working, to transfer over my visa from NON B to marriage visa requires 2 recent salary slips of 40k or more, letter of employment off my employer and copy of passport right.

Yes

And your tax return for last year if you were working then.
