Four out of five Thais want country opened up/Indians raring up for Thailand again, says survey

A major survey conducted by a group of foreign companies suggests that the great majority of Thais want their country opened up to tourists as soon as possible. 

 

And it suggests that many other Asians' first thoughts in a post Covid19 world are trips to Thailand.

 

That includes one of the country's most popular markets pre-pandemic - Indians. 

 

RYT9 said that three companies - Blackbox Research, Dynata and Language Connect - had teamed up for the survey entitled: "Unravel Travel: Fear & Possibilities in a Post Coronavirus (Covid-19) World".

 

A total of 10,195 opinions of people in 17 countries were recorded in the survey.

 

A total of four out of five Thais (82%) expressed confidence that the country was ready to open its borders to tourists again. This was the highest percentage of respondents on the matter from any country surveyed.

 

People in India, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesia listed Thailand as the first place they would consider visiting when restrictions on travel from their own countries are lifted. 

 

A total of 93% of Thais said that foreign tourism was vital for the Thai economy. 

 

A total of 22% said that opening up the country was a priority - again the highest of any country surveyed. 

 

Chief Operation Officer of Blackbox Research Saurabh Sardana said that the survey results were a positive sign for Thailand, a country that has been able to successfully control the virus and who are currently taking steps to reopen borders.

Wow thats a fast turn around from last weeks BS... still wont be coming back to Thailand for the next few years tho, too much hassle for little benefit.

But this time they gave the remaining 2% the chance to voice their opinion. 

Now they ask bar girls in Pattaya! 7 % of them don't understand question! They think asked "do you want farang don't give you money when you give your service"!

Just read this morning that 10% of returnees from India are testing positive for Covid-19 in quarantine. I believe the figures for returnees from other countries are far lower. Cant see Indians being welcomed for a while.

Averaged 600 people in each country. Surely, you'd need more than that to get a fair dinkum result.

They should  just do the Japanese way and sit  on the fence until one side  looks  like it  might win, path of laziness least resistance.

This is why I don't put a lot of faith into "polls."

One recent poll shows that 90% of Thais want the borders to remain close.  And knowing Thais I tend to believe that domestic poll.

Now a foreign poll show 4 out of 5 Thais want the borders reopened.

How do I interpret this?  Those who have the money and have access to or control media outlets can pump any tosh they want into the public domain to sway the public.  And they do.

If I want to know the general consensus of Thais - I ask them.  "Polls?"  Take them with a grain of salt. 

Whatever the outcome of the different surveys it remains difficult to analyse the results as no one knows the questions asked: when stating that one wants the borders open it does not mention in which conditions that should be done. I am wary of the fact that surveyed say that they trust the Government policy when that policy is to impose a quarantine and talks about electronic bracelets. There would even be a 100% positive response if ones wants to keep the virus completely at bay ( if that is possible) and let everyone get in the country, wouldn't you agree ? I am talking about the Thai people's answers not the foreigners'

No they don’t , only Elites want Thailand open , Ridiculous Poll

Polls will say whatever the commissioner wants them to say. That aside, probably those who have lost their livelihood would like it open, those with job security indifferent or kept closed. So if you poll public servants or people in a tourist zone then completely different views.

"India Coronavirus: 3,314,953 Cases and 60,652 Deaths".       That's the current figures.

three of the countries listed currently have raging infection rates

Saying it’s ready to open and wanting it to open are not the same thing.

it was but that was a Thai survey funded by the Thai government as was the 98% positive one about Thailand being the bestestist place in the world!!!

That is correct, but now the state handouts are running out, and the Commercial Banks are reigning in their Loans given, and reducing Credit Card Issues and limits..
