Trucks urged to steer clear of highways during long holiday weekend

The Department of Land Transport is urging truck operators to avoid using highways during the upcoming holidays to prevent traffic congestion and accidents.

 

Deputy director-general Yongyut Nakdaeng said that as September 4 and 7 were announced as public holidays to compensate for the cancelled Songkran holidays in April, the long weekend would see many people travelling or returning to their homes upcountry.

 

“The department expects heavy traffic during this period and has asked operators of trucks and product transportation businesses to refrain from using highways to reduce traffic congestion and also lessen the chances of road accidents,” he said.

 

“Businesses that still need to transport their goods during the long holidays are advised to check the condition of their vehicles, coupling and harness equipment to ensure safety,” Yongyut said.

 

“All vehicles should be equipped with GPS tracking devices to facilitate timely roadside services in case of vehicle or equipment malfunction to minimise traffic congestion in that area,” he said.

 

“Drivers must rest adequately before operating their vehicles and try not to exceed driving hours limited by the law. Most importantly, drivers must possess a valid driving licence,” Yongyut said.

 

“If you witness any reckless or unsafe driving of trucks or public vehicles, please contact the department’s call centre at 1584, Line ID @1584dlt, http://ins.dlt.go.th/cmpweb/ or e-mail: [email protected] along with details, such as photo evidence and licence plate number,” he added. “Those providing tip-offs will be entitled to 50 per cent of the fine the department receives from the offender.”

These guidelines for safety should be in effect all the time. And maybe not just try complying with the law, but doing it actually?

This is part of what’s wrong... 

 

Owners and drivers of vehicles found to be unroadworthy will face heavy fines !!! - there fixed it.

 

Anyone driving dangerously or recklessly will face heavy fines.

The mentality of drivers is a primary issue here - no one is scared of breaking a law. 

 

I’ve just seen a works pickup overtake another pickup inside my moo-baan - total a hole..

There you go,that's another possible half million jobs as phone staff

Is Deputy director-general Yongyut Nakdaeng of The Department of Land Transport aware that 70% and over of all accidents are caused by motorbikes ?

 

Yeh ok, take the trucks off the road during the pandemic, those goods and services can wait till after the long weekend.

But if they steer clear of the highways then they will be plowing through cars and motorbikes on the little Soi's and frontage roads.  Why not just ensure they are parked and not allowed to run during the holidays.  Companies should stock up prior to a long weekend and then resume the deliveries the morning after the holiday weekend ends.

Bit cheeky! These guys are working no holiday for them. They're not government, bank or overseas company employees (privileged few that actually get paid public holidays)

The fact they have to keep spouting this off just emphasises the woeful amount of enforcement and cavalier attitude to the law that said Darwinism will find a way....
