AstraZeneca puts leading COVID-19 vaccine trial on hold over safety concern

Given that there are 50,000 taking part in these tests it is not really surprising that some will fall ill during the course of the trial, more than likely for unconnected reasons.

In fact I would be more suspicious of any trials of that size where no illnesses were being reported.

Normal practice to suspend new  dosing. The SOP is to verify if the batch was compromised, and if the patient had an existing condition that was missed at screening. In addition, to the review of the adverse reaction response. I hope the courageous volunteer recovers.

I wouldn't rule out sabotage either. There are foreign entities who do not wish to see a "western" vaccine succeed particularly one that will be available to the world at low cost and with no strings attached.

It's not unusual for illnesses to be wrongly ascribed to vaccines, but it is right to halt a trial for safety reasons.

Said complication is a transverse myelitis which have an incidence of 2-4/1,000,000

If the rate of people developing transverse myelitis is 100-fold higher in vaccine group, there are chances that this particular vaccine is not gonna be approved.

finger crossed that this in an unrelated event.
