'Play it down': Trump admits to concealing the true threat of coronavirus in new Woodward book

Washington (CNN) President Donald Trump admitted he knew weeks before the first confirmed US coronavirus death that the virus was dangerous, airborne, highly contagious and "more deadly than even your strenuous flus," and that he repeatedly played it down publicly, according to legendary journalist Bob Woodward in his new book "Rage."

...

Trump's admissions are in stark contrast to his frequent public comments at the time insisting that the virus was "going to disappear" and "all work out fine."

The book, using Trump's own words, depicts a President who has betrayed the public trust and the most fundamental responsibilities of his office.

Yeh, too much ambiguity and mis-information in the early days of Covid.  I agree, he probably should have let the states deal with it, and headed to the Swiss Alps with 30 concubines.  ????

Would probably have done less harm if he had. ????

What tape? Where?

From the OP news report:

The startling revelations in "Rage," which CNN obtained ahead of its September 15 release, were made during 18 wide-ranging interviews Trump gave Woodward from December 5, 2019 to July 21, 2020. The interviews were recorded by Woodward with Trump's permission, and CNN has obtained copies of some of the audio tapes.

This sorry episode of Trump's presidency ought to be his career-ending version of Nixon's Watergate Oval Office tapes......

Interesting how quiet the trump contingent of TVF are.

Crickets.

If a Democrat POTUS had said these things we would be treated to multiple  conspiracy claims by now. Alex Jones would be frothing at the mouth, Fox & Friends would be beside itself screaming of a  deep state plot, Sean Hannity would be having conniptions and Rush Limbaugh would have lost control of his bladder due to his rage.

Where are the simpletons of TVF and their faux anger, their indignation?  Surely, they have read Russian security agency sourced explanations or false stories to distract by now and should be able to  blame someone for this?

Hard to imagine... a U.S. president by his deliberate and knowing inaction and deception has the deaths of many tens of thousands of Americans directly on his hands.

Those are the estimates of the number of American lives out of the already nearly 200,000 dead from COVID that would have been saved had the U.S. followed a coherent national strategy of anti-virus measures that Trump resolutely opposed and sabotaged. And yet 30-40% of the U.S. public apparently still support him.

I fear the idiocy of the U.S. and its citizens is going to totally wreck my country. The continued public support for this charlatan is almost like a fatal virus in its own right.  The sad reality of a reality show president and his pathetic enablers.
