why the quarantine?thais dont do it,they need a fit to fly paper no virus free test,so tourists are being put thru hoops for thailands benefit so they can be ripped off at the hotel quarantine.few takers id say .just people separated from family loved ones and work permit people.a covid free test with in 72 hrs and a quarantine till the airport test bkk side is neg is enough and that quarantine can be done at home .not in rip off land.what is the matter with govt here why so self deluded.your known the world over as incompetent corrupt and racist but you dont have to prove every day of the week ,do yourself your country and the world a favour, take a day off

This plan is doomed right from the begging.

Rethink and come up with a new plan which dose not have quarantine .

you are welcome to contact us dirty Falangs for ideas and suggestions.

By the way looks like the christmas's and newer high season will not be a high season.

Congratulations.

Almost one year of lockdown with no vaccine in sight. Where is the point thai government would say enough is enough and open the borders?

This is not great news,as if LOS opened the doors tomorrow where would you get a flight, unless a repat flight and they all cost big money, South African Airways has returned most of it's fleet to the lease company and only has 4 planes flying, 2 of these are hauling freight, Thai airways are bankrupt, are they going to fly to NZ to pick up a load of Kiwis who would go into quarantine-- have to pay for it, then get another exorbitant price fare home and go into quarantine again for 14 days and have to pay, the expats returning would not fill a plane from here.

Obviously when a country officially announces a reopening, airlines will start queuing up.

I guarantee there will be enough wanting to go even with the restrictions. It will be a good test run before reopening to broader tourism.

They should now introduce the "Prepaid Future Fun Act" where you send them 10,000-20,000 baht now and they will add your name to a list so when you finally do get to come next year they will make sure you have loads of fun at a 25-30% discount. :wai:

It appears they have... Buy Elite visa now, get an extra 6 months later ! https://www.thailandelite.com/at-your-service?locate=en&popup=false

Lot of people here just ripping on this idea as insufficient, but... the country has to start somewhere. They might as well start giving ideas a try and learn something along the way. An alternative plan that doesn't require any quarantine would mean the health infrastructure for the rest of the country would have to be vastly improved to accept, deal with, and isolate the inevitable new cases that would start to show up.

Thailand's tourism industry is a multi billion dollar cash cow, I hope they are putting "top minds" on the project, but this is the kind of thing where even a very small amount of infections creeping in - if not perfectly handled (which I think we can agree has a high probability) - could serve to wreck the other 85% of the economy along with it.

I'm not sure anyone in the world has the right answer, but I do commend efforts to do something now.

people with money are smart enough to go somewhere else

I think most "tourist" destinations/countries all have restrictions, or quarantines at present.  If they do not, you are risking your health and those of the people who you come in contact with.

Thailand is planning to reopen to long-term foreign visitors to help revive an ailing tourism sector and save millions of jobs.

Just get your mainland Chinese brothers and sisters back. They're easier to control. They don't go anywhere their tour bus doesn't, they stay within the flock and only eat at predetermined places. Just stock up enough prawns at your buffet lines. Leave the dirty and pesky foreigners out of your grand plans. You don't like them anyway.

Thais returning do have to go into 14 day quarantine, but it is free for them.

Most cases of c19 are returning Thais tested in quarantine, same as NZ there was 17 positive cases off one flight of NZ'ers returning from india, found/ tested days later in quarantine this week'

If a country opens its doors the virus will flood in, all the evidence and scientists agree, you will not keep it out, if you open the doors.

The only way most people hope that this can happen is when a vaccine is approved and released.

Economic experts are trying to predict how long each airline can last. Thai and American Airlines did not make the list, they were mentioned as sitting beside each other at the bottom of the scrap heap, waiting for a miracle.

As for stupid plans, if you read and search the entry conditions for each country in the world , most are locked down, China is just as stringent as Thailand.

NZ and Australia are locked most countries are locked at present, except in europe where the young can travel from the UK to Spain, have a drink up then return to England and spread the virus around, this was the case last week, the virus is rampant now all over the world, India now leading the infection rate.

The death rates and hospitalisations have gone right down, so---- who will win? the vaccine will arrive or the virus will dye over the next 6 months, better treatments are now being used, maybe it will become a virus no worse than the flue in the months to come.

In the meantime those of you who can stay in LOS,  -- enjoy the clean beaches and hospitality.

I won't be coming back until the airlines start up which may be anytime between 6/12 months-- or who knows maybe longer , I hope 6/12 months.

So enjoy you guys.

At huge expense sorry Thailand i do not think many will be taking up your offer , they better come up with a cheaper idea which don't mean keeping the elite in supreme comfort .

Great news for retirees , condo owners etc

It is anyway for some the only opportunity as a chance to come in again and start selling all they have in Thailand...take some losses , but recover the big , and  after....say by by Thailand

As else they would risk to have property or money on a far distance
