In all fairness the Thai government does have a dilemma. They want the tourists back but if they let them in and they get infections spreading then the public will be angry and then they'll just have to shut it all down again. So nothing achieved. Plus if any tourists come they may need to also do 14 days in their home countries on return, never gonna happen.

 

I am anti-vaccine, but seems the Russians have one that seems to work (so far at any rate), perhaps buying that is a solution, and then open. Either that or they are just going to have to wait till it burns out, when that will be is an unknown, some signs suggest it may be in a few months, but again that could be way wrong.

 

Think the best they can get are long term expats wanting to return, but of course they aren't the tourism related big spenders.

Honestly think they will have to give priority to people who have a house lease and let them do the 14 days quarantine at their home. No one will ever accept to pay for a 14 days quarantine in a hotel when they already have a rent to be paid or are the owner of a house/condo in the country. Makes zero sense.

 

As for tourists, no one will ever waste their time in a hotel for 2 weeks not being able to go out. Simple as that.

There in French, our government can not cover facts also... we test a lot (a lot more than Thailand will never be able to test in all life i think) and we see that in fact, there is a lot of asymptomatic cases and death case is down to 0.5% and only very pow powered old people who are already seek by something other.

In real scientist fact, COVID doesn't kill at a point we can call this a pandemic, but a season flu.

 

STOP to be in panic and make people afraid with that now, end of lie story now. Wake up babies.

sure, but this government are so stupid that they will never want to understand.

In fact, they spoke to quick and don't want to loose face every day, so there is a long long list of stupidity they already said.

If they remove one by month it can be very long.

They are the first to break Thailand, it is a big shame.

If they offer a special tourist visa that allows a longer stay than the current one, there will be some takers despite the quarantine requirement.

 

The big question is how they will manage to have enough flights in and out to accommodate them, considering that they are few and far between.

 

Also, their expectations with regards to numbers will probably be delusional once again. As I said, there will be takers, but not millions of them.

Thailand has been isolated indefinitely - few non-Thais from the outside world are about to be let in until covid-19 is old news globally.

Presumably Thais are still allowed to come and go at will as the re-entry rules seem to be easier for them.

 

Where is the update to the "new normal" ministers?

The rules need to be relaxed for long stay visitors - 6 months or more.

It is time for the Thai Gov to test the intended travelers at the port of departure & again at entry with the newer faster more reliable test kits - from where ever - and do away with those silly medicate certificates for all visas.

 

Note - we still we have the burning season to look forward too.

I disagree.

I know 5 or 6 people on retirement here with apartments they own or long term lease that will gladly spend 14 days in a quarantine hotel to come back where it is safe & authorities are taking the virus seriously to protect both us & the Thai populus at large (unlike some countries where the $$$$$$ is King & peoples health does not count).

They will then enjoy their 4 or 5 months holiday & spend some monies along the way

It seems to me that until Airlines can fill the seats on scheduled flights to and from Thailand this stand-off will continue. It was so easy to lockdown the country back in March.

The self quarantine system works for farang but they could not even get their own people on a bus in March so they make responsible farang pay for their incompetence. No testing will always equal no infection.

This may accomodate condo owners and and the remaining snow birds. Most certainly not suited for short-term visitors (the majority by and lange). BTW condo owners should never have been forbidden to return and look after their properties. Very poor judjment and open display of unfriendliness from a country whose tourism ecomomy is so desperately depending on foreign vistors (either short or long-term) . Shame on you.

That is called survival. You cannot blame the other countries for their policies. All of the countries are taking steps and every single one of them is taking the right step and definitely the wrong one. Not even the future will tell as facts are so easily distorted. Personally, when it comes to the 14 days in quarantine it is a definite No No. Not paying that kind of money to remain secluded. I wouldn't mind a fortnight at home wearing a bracelet though with regular controls and reports.
