The government's subcommittee tasked with examining medium and long-term economic measures has reportedly suggested expediting mega-projects to the Centre for Economic Situation Administration.

The total value of the projects is estimated at around Bt1.2 trillion. Investment in these projects should be accerelated, the panel has recommended.

Among them are the Bang Sue-Rangsit and Bang Sue-Taling Chan Red Line mass-transit system worth Bt1.07 billion. The project is slated to be trialled on July 1, 2021.

Another project is the Phase-1 Thailand-China high-speed train project. All its civil work contracts are expected to be signed next year and construction is expected to be finished in 2025.

Another one is the Kae Rai-Lam Sali Brown Line mass-transit system costing Bt48.5 billion. Construction will begin in 2024 with operations commencing in 2027.

They also include the Phase-1 Phuket mass-transit system worth Bt35.2 billion, the Red Line mass-transit system in Chiang Mai worth Bt27.3 billion, and Phase 3 of the Laem Chabang deep seaport development worth Bt114 billion.

  • So is the goal to totally bankrupt Thailand before you get run out of office and flee to another country ?? how about putting a little money toward feeding those who can no longer feed themselves

  • Yes of course the panel has recommended the project be accelerated, BIGGER kick backs for them, and others involved. Stuff the fact the country cannot afford it, more money to be made by the hand

It should be delayed , not accelerated .

Nobody knows the outcome of the ' Covid ' situation yet .

There could be hard times coming for Thailand ...

Better keep the money for now , until the ' dark clouds ' are gone ...

Eleven years before the trials start, could enable a lot of money to be diverted to the Caymans. ????

While people sit on the sidewalks begging for food this is their master plan?

How out of touch can they be.

I think the money is available via the foreign currency holdings. If these projects get started, it will provide employment and in the long term will be of greater benefit to the country. Like anywhere else though, the longer it is put off, the cost increases.

Excellent news from the government and Khun Prayut Chan O Cha. Job creation, literally thousands of jobs will happen because of this spending. That's exactly what Thailand needs to get it kickstarted from COVID.  This government continues to spend more on infrastructure than any other previous government. 977388852_KhunPrayut4.PNG.78a1142c0e59f8a5519cd5861b7f47fb.PNG

Im really interested to know how the average Thai family or person will be able to travel on these Mega projects, Why would any one want to travel from 1 airport in Bangkok to another in Sattahip. sure there would 1 or 2 but does it justify the costs. Who,s money is being spent and where is it going?

The usual distorted comment. That is the Hat Yai shuttle, old 3rd class rolling stock used to ferry passengers between Hat Yai and PD. The rolling stock used between Hat Yai and Bangkok is fairly modern.

It is the tracks in Thailand that need upgrading more so than the rolling stock.

In the same vein we might even suggest to make a diving destination out of a certain redundant Aircraft Carrier.  p.s Does the definition and the list of similes for the word  redundant encompass "never used?"

The rail projects should be accelerated. Thailand is 40-50 years behind the curve, when it comes to public transportation, with the exception of Bangkok. The railway here is sickening. I recently tried public transportation, from Hua Hin to Samui. Took a 5 hour express train from HH to Surat. All good. Except the train was 3.5 hours late between a 2.5 hour delay in arriving, and an additional hour added, on the way. Unacceptable. Then I took a VIP bus back from Samui. Left the pier at 6:45pm. Arrived in HH at 4:00am. Even at 11pm, the traffic was a parking lot, due to the main north south artery for the nation, reduced to one lane, due to road construction. One hour spent going 5 kph. Unacceptable.

This country should have been looking at alternatives for shipping cargo around the country, decades ago. Instead nearly every highway is choked with trucks big and small. Unacceptable. Much progress needs to be made. Creative minds need to be employed. Where are they going to find them? Certainly not in this administration, nor in the army. Perhaps we can simply install the youth now, in roles of leadership. They will be taking over soon enough, anyway. Let us get rid of the dinosaurs.

Eventually, the entire nation may have two deck highways, like the new one from BKK to Korat. Upper road is a toll road, and trucks must be forbidden to use them. Some progress please. Any progress, is better than moving backwards under the regressive and toxic army.

china s high speed trains are not safe,i have seen a sign in it that says

this train can go up to 400 km an hour but we only go 299 km an hour because it might go off the rail

like everything from china cheap copies from the real thing

How about feeding the poor. Thais will not be able to afford tickets to ride trains that cost trillions. Then they buy  submarines, attack helicopters and millions more for high tech tanks?? Quite a few trillion for a country with no enemies to worry about.  Not my problem and not my business what they do. I just feel for the little guy's who eke out a living for 300 baht a day.

Frankly, if a train comes off the rails at 299kmh or 400kmh the difference is probably academic!

Either way it is "a serious earth fault"!

Thanks for posting the photos.

Is the railway going to be overhead all the way then?

Would you happen to know how much is completed, and how much track has been laid?

I'm so sceptical about it.

"All its civil work contracts are expected to be signed next year and construction is expected to be finished in 2025."

No contracts have even been signed. How come construction appears to be going ahead from your photos?

Yet millions of workers are out of work so my question is will it be free rides for everyone

Yes the foreign currency surplus

in the vicinity of 237 billion US$'S.  Just 10% of that could feed the entire country for a year and forgo PEA bills at the same time plus supply all the cooking gas for free and allow free travel on public transport.

It will end the same way the red busses in Pattaya were ment to circle around town.

The old knacker is the Thai train but the Malaysian one is Chinese and it's tinny.......  I wouldn't buy a Chinese toaster !    I was working for Malaysian railways last year.........  I might also add that Thai trains are not allowed on Malaysian lines...........  You change trains here from a Thai train to the Malaysian one for the journey into Malaysia......

You would have a fair point were it not for the fact that approximately 30% of the budget will go directly into the pockets of the circus masters.
