No punishment for protesting at Sanam Luang, says City Hall

City authorities will not take legal action against protesters for using Sanam Luang as a rally site, a senior Bangkok official said on Monday.

 

Suradet Amnuaisarn, Phra Nakhon district director, said Sanam Luang suffered no serious harm during the weekend’s mass protest, but damage was being evaluated to report to police.

 

The district chief asked people to respect the regulation that Sanam Luang was only to be used as a leisure area from 5am to 10pm or for royal ceremonies, national ceremonies and sports competitions.

 

However, the regulation carried a warning rather than punishment for those who disobeyed it, he added.

 

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration would not get involved in politics, and it was up to security forces to decide whether protesters had violated the law, he said.

No need to punish for protesting. Now that the new plaque has been safely pulled up and trashed in the middle of the night…the disloyal, treasonous students have been reminded that they have no power. The army  are in charge…..and the country does not…belong to the people.

Yes Suradet make all the warnings you want, the younger generation have had enough.

10 protesters are to be charged wth violating the Public Assembly Act and four leaders to be charged with lese majeste (even though HM King has asked for this law not to be enforced).

The plaque was pulled up and the hole cemented over. News this morning also indicated many to be charged and arrested.  Sad when one hand lies to the other.
