Hi

I am currently working on ship that is laid up docked in Marseille France due to the no cruise at present, i am due to leave the ship in late November, I am married to a Thai national and have been living with her in Khon kaen for many years, i normally have a Non O multi entry based on marriage, however my visa run out early January this year and i entered Thailand in later February, i need to replace my passport, so i got a new passport and was planning to go Savannkhet for my new visa once i had my new passport. However the boarded closed 2 days before i received my new passport. i took advantage of the visa amnesty. I returned to work on board the ship in early July.

Now that i am planning to finish my contract on the ship in the next 6 week to 2 month i am planning my return, flights are not an issue and getting a CoE is easy. The problem is i need to get a visa, i can not leave the ship to attend the embassy to get a visa, so i contacted an Visa agent in France to help me with getting my visa, they contacted me yesterday saying that because i am not a French citizen and i don't have residency they will not be able to issue me with a visa for Thailand,

So now i am not sure as what to do next, can i enter Thailand on the Visa on arrival in these Covid 19 times, as well i have a quarantine hotel booked for my return so i iknow the procedure required to re-enter Thailand, just want to know if anyone can give me advise on how i can get a visa or if i can enter on a VOA

Many Thanks

You cannot enter with a visa exempt entry now. You must have a non-o visa to enter.

I suggest you contact the embassy in Paris about the visa yourself and certificate of entry. They might make an exception to the requirement to be a resident of France to issue the non-o visa.

Why can't you leave the ship? It will be very hard to get everything you need for the CoE if you can't leave the ship.

i can leave the ship but the company has a strict 14 day quarantine policy, so if i was go to to the embassy in paris i would have to do 14 day quarantine on return to the ship, as for the CoE i have all the required documentation and as well for my visa i have the documentation ready to submit. I even have a statement letter from my company explaining why i am currently in France. but as per the embassy if not a French citizen or resident they can not issue me a visa, I am in the process to get my company to contact the embassy to see if that helps.

How about going through this process after you're no longer working on the ship? Resign yourself to the fact you may need to spend about a month waiting in Paris to go through this whole process.

So i have had an update from the Thai Embassy in france, as per the embassy if i can have a friend in France write a letter to state that i have been living at their address and a copy of their passport and a copy of a utility bill they will process my application for a visa at the Paris Embassy and i can use a visa agent to submit my passport for visa processing, fingers crossed i can get the visa to return back to Thailand and se my wife again.

What is your nationality ? Careful with the Thai Embassy in France. They have a reputation of being really difficult. Which agencies do you mean ?

Hi grubman, I’ve looked up Mondial Visa. Have another look at post no 2 from ubonjoe who really knows his stuff.  I would deal only with the Embassy itself, if they won’t give you a non O , no agency will either. Some agencies are quick to promise the world and then don’t come through. From what another agency said they cannot do visas for Thailand because of Covid. If they could, we would have heard of it immediately. It’s been on the grapevine that Thailand might, big might, ease up restrictions a bit later. Whatever, you’re going to need a healthy bank balance. Good luck.

is it not possible to get a visa in Aus by post ?

Also
if things prove to be difficult for you
maybe it might be worth flying the wife to meet you half way, say in Turkey for extended holiday
i know someone that just done this
They plan to travel around until quarantine lifted if they can,
if not she returns to Quarantine for free

just an option
