Thailand begins piloting first month of foreign visitor arrivals

BANGKOK (NNT) - The kingdom will this month begin to open up to more groups of foreign visitors.

On October 8th, the kingdom will be receiving its first group of foreign visitors, as the country gradually opens itself through the issuance of the new Special Tourist Visa (STV), permitting foreign visitors up to 270 days in the kingdom.

The first group will comprise 150 Chinese visitors who have scheduled a charter flight from Guangzhou to Phuket. There are also another seven international business operators coming to Thailand on the same day.

Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson, Natapanu Nopakun has shared that following the first flight, the kingdom will be receiving other special flights this month, mostly bringing in a hundred or so people on each flight.

All inbound passengers will be screened upon arrival and transported to each individual’s chosen hotel for the required 14-day quarantine. Prior to their release, their last COVID-19 test will be conducted to ensure no virus leakage.

Natapanu also shared that demand from foreigners wishing to enter Thailand has been high. Since the government announced the introduction of the new STV visa and the expansion of eligible groups of visitors to the kingdom, Thai Embassies worldwide have received many applications. He assured the applicants that all Thai Embassies are expediting their work in issuing appropriate visas; however, the kingdom is doing it on a step-by-step basis, starting with small groups of qualified foreigners from low-risk countries.

Those interested are welcome to contact a Thai embassy in their respective area to inquire about applying for the Special Tourist Visa (STV).

Now there's a face with a reassuring air of competence about it.

Before anyone gets too excited, the grand arrival of the first batch of STV Chinese on Thursday has now been canceled and a new committee, headed by General Natthaphon Nakphanic, will be formed on Friday to figure out some way to relief tourists of their money without actually letting the filthy bastards into the country.

This report came out last week I remember reading it which is well before the announcement of the delay in those who were meant to be arriving on the 8th . It’s just more BS from these ????????????????????s who supposedly run the country.

I bet you they all are very friendly at the airport now.

The detention room is nice and clean.

They should give priority to holder of retirement visa or extension too. I have friends in Europe and they are more than unhappy with the response from Thai Embassies.

It is a flop that we will hear about for weeks.   No coverage of the protests just constant TAT updates.  Nothing interests me more than TAT news.  I love for tourists having to register their whereabouts every moment.  I live for all the new schemes to lure first time arrivals.   And banter about quality tourists vs. back packers is my favorite discussion.  Bring out the GPS's I say.   Have an Orwellian experience within a tropical setting.

So, the grand plan was to welcome those that caused all this strife instead of just sueing them in international court for damages. ????

How do the 7 groups of international business operators fit into the tourist label? And why would an international business think sitting on their collective butts for 2 weeks was a good idea? ????

I DO agree with some posters that anyone currently out of the country and holding a valid retirement visa/extension AND willing to pay for the 14-day quarantine should be allowed in. All those from and around Europe could meet in a port and share a cruise ship that would sail them all to Phuket.

If they were tested boarding, tested every 3 days, took 3 weeks to make the trip and tested before disembarking that could qualify as the quarantine. :wai:

Sorry, but until I see the sky falling I will not believe another word from these clowns.  It is a regular Barnum and Bailey circus.  With the Thai baht flying high like it is who the heck knows what's gonna happen in this world.

Well the horses are out of the gate---let run it up the flagpole and see who salutes or takes the hook

With so many empty massage shops it may be who is coming and going or going and then coming!! ????

They start with 150 Chinese, then how many? Somebody Please tell them there might be a roomer going around that there are still many cases of the virus, and take your pick of which virus is coming from China, as they have many. So are you going to test for only one virus? Covid-19,H1n1, and a few more. Think about this before you unleash these virus dangers to the Thai people and us.
