October 14, 20205 yr Popular Post Getting around the Darkside is getting a little challenging at the moment as all three major east west roads have roadworks at points right now (and these are ones I know...there could be more). The far eastern end of Siam Country Club Road is dug-up for continuing sewer pipe instalation from about Soi 23 to SP Village 3, Soi Nern Plub Wan is closed for a hundred meters or so from Sila Resto eastward, again for pipe laying, and The east end of Soi Kao Talo, from the top of the hill down past Pepper & Salt Resto, is being resurfaced and is closed. They finish up sections and then continue on down the road...NPW I could see them continuing down to Wat Suttawas, SCC I see the have sewer pipes stacked on the side of the road all the way around Maprachan Lake so that's going to be a long time project. The bit on soi KT has only about 200-300 meters to the most logical endpoint Soi Thung Klom-Tan Man at the bottom of the hill.

October 14, 20205 yr Author The folks at Taco House on SSCC are fit to be tied as the works have been going on for months in front of them and yesterday, one of the heavy equipment operators hit and cracked the concrete electric pole in front of them knocking out power for the evening.

Same with Darksiders Evolution bar. Its been going on practically since it opened. Sunk a lot of money into the bar too. There is a back way from Wat Sutawat past the Nongprue police station that brings you out right next to Taco House. Not that I'm bothered, ate there last week and the food was terrible.
October 14, 20205 yr Author I should add SSCC is still open but it's rough going in the construction area...only NPW and KT are closed at the construction sections, and NPW has a marked diversion.

Yes, I've become very familiar with that back-way diversion...keep going and it pops out on Country Club under the new overpass just past Teo's Burgers. I'm sorry about your Taco House experience...I eat there regularly and always enjoy it.

If you're using Taco House you can park in the builders supply yard behind it,no need to go on Soi Siam at all. Decided to try it because I'd only heard good things about it and my son was nagging me for his first taco. I had chilli which had zero chilli in it and the ground beef tasted unpleasant. My wife had a huge plate of tortilla chips with various gunk on it which she left most of. My son had mini tacos which looked like deep fried spring rolls but he loved them. When ordering I asked for guacamole on the side. Never arrived.

Yes I know...I mean if you're not going to Taco House but want to go to say Ae & Ek Steakhouse, if you turn right, instead of left, at Soi 28 (police station) the road winds its way another 500m or so and pops out under the overpass. You should talk to "Gill" about your experience...they are a very customer focused business. Any time I've had a food or service issue they have promptly rectified it. I think your wife had the nachos supreme...one of my favorites and the best version of the dish you'll find in Pattaya or Bangkok. As you refer to the toppings as "various gunk," maybe the food is actually very good but you just dislike Tex-Mex cuisine? Their 211 reviews and 4.6 Google Maps rating tends to militate against your view of their food offerings. Edited October 14, 20205 yr by Pattaya Spotter

I am a big fan of chilli con carne though and used to make my own in the UK. How you can make it without chillis or tomatoes is beyond me. Just a bowl of unpleasant tasting ground beef in brown gravy. The rice was way overcooked and unpleasant too.

Actually, beanless chilli is often served in Texas and the American southwest so it's certainly genuine...not everybody likes "tinned" beans with everything (including breakfast) ???? I see they have a 5 Dot rating on Trip Advisor too.

TripAdvisor ratings mean nothing. Look up the 2nd best restaurant in Pattaya. An Indian on 2nd road. Fantastic reviews by reviewers who've only ever made one review and use the same stock phrases as other reviewers. At least one review was obviously made by the manager. Never seen a customer in there when I've walked past.

I'm no expert but do know that the basic recipe can be made with or without beans...it can also be made with bean and no meat (vegetarian/vegan). Say what you will about any online ratings...but when you see a trend I think they're onto something. Edited October 14, 20205 yr by Pattaya Spotter

Dictating reviews to customers whilst they're sat there in exchange for a discount on their meals. Indian restaurants are particularly prone to this. Edited October 14, 20205 yr by polpott

I'm sure I named that place on Siam CC road a few times before in different posts, especially back during the "lockdown" when it was harder for Darksiders to get to the big stores on the West side of the Suk. I don't recall any post being deleted/edited for naming the place. The place right next to the Nong Bistro. Was only there once mainly as Siamburis is closer to my location and as noted above, it is larger and better stocked that the one on Siam CC. I pretty much only went to that small shop to check out the selections in the event the lockdown lasted a long time. That place did have a couple things I never saw in Siamburis (can't remember exactly what they were now though) but I didn't make note of the prices or try to compare anything to Siamburis. Probably should pop in there again just to refresh the memory on what they have.
