You can legally obtain a gun in Thailand under the right circumstances.  Trouble is that the laws governing lethal force are different here.  Concealed carry?  Not unless you're very special.  So if you had a gang of guys chasing you with the intent to cause you grievous bodily harm and you shot someone?  You'd go to jail.  Overall though, I personally feel much safer in Thailand than I ever did in the US where I used to pack.  However with the current economic downturn?  Our neighbour just experienced a home invasion.  Some guy attempting to break into the home when only a 90+ year old woman was at home - screaming.  But, the anti-gun crowd imho are probably rooting for the poor guy attempting to violently break in to the house.
