I will be moving out to Thailand full time soon with my English girlfriend. While we both enjoy the simple life which we will have in Chanthaburi, every other weekend we're going to head up to BKK to let our hair down.

 I'm a bit worried she'll feel a little isolated while in Thailand because I've been to Thailand many times and know plenty of people there so I'm OK, but my girlfriend will still be fairly new to the place and I think she'd like to have a regular circle of expat females to meet up with and have a laugh with in BKK. The last thing I want is for her is to have to come with me on my rounds all the time especially as shes very independent and likes to do her own thing and I think we can survive one night out of 14 apart. I know she'll get on with mates Thai girlfriends and all that, but I think she'd feel less isolated if she knew that she had mates up in BKK to fall back on. I know I do!

Where is a good place for her to meet up with Western girls in BKK on a regular basis so she can get me from under her feet for a while and do girlie stuff? And NO! I'm not looking to get rid of her while I go misbehaving!!!!

as you already guessed, it won't be easy for your g/f to find foreign women friends in BKK just walking around in the streets or shopping. as i understand you are both not working, so friendships made through work fall away. if she likes to go out at night there are some places to meet expat women, like Spasso's in the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel (great nightclub anyway!!) or even Gulliver's on Khaosan Rd. It's been a while when I used to live in BKK so I'm not very up to date about the hippest nightspots there anymore. in the Farang Magazine which is available almost everywhere you can get find some hints.

once she has met one new friend it should be easy to meet many, as the circle of western women there is not that big.

what about her meeting new friends through your already existing ones??!

Thanks for the advice!! It sounds like the Spassos type of place is ideal. Not too sure about gullies as its very transient in there. All of my existing mates have Thai girlfriends which is all well and good but I think that she'll really enjoy the company of women from a similar background every now and again.

I'm sure that we'll find something in time! A freind of mine mentioned something about a womens football league during a drunken phone conversation (he was drunk, I was soberish) which has quite a few westerners involved in it which sounded right up her street so I'm trying to look into that! I don't suppose any of you have heard anything about this?

Some of the big nightclubs like Spasso, CM2, Hard Rock Cafe, MoS, QBar etc etc can be packed to the rafters with freelancers.  Especially CM2.  I know farang girls and Thai girls who still have a great time at these places, but it's not everyone's cup of tea, and girls will occassionally cop the 'how much sweetheart?' question from guys.  A number of Russian girls still doing the rounds, so many punters consider any girls (Thai or farang) in these places are fair game.

There are a number of pubs/bars/clubs around that seem to be frequented(?) by farang girls including places around Sukhumvit Soi 4, Sukhumvit Soi 33, Soi Cowboy, Patpong etc...  There are some quite tame and popular bars in these areas.

For really safe options stick to the Brittish and Irish pubs for a while or bars like Saxophone at Victory Monument.  The Irish Xchange (formerly Shennanigans, formerly Delaneys) on Convent Rd is usually a good choice.

Sports clubs are another option.  Many of these clubs have at least as much emphasis on socialising as they do on sport.

Also keep track of live music playing around town.

Finally, find out whether your embassy hosts drinkies on friday nights.  This can be a good cheap way to kick off a night, meet expats etc etc.

Not sure if I'm the best person toi advice on this subject as a farang with a Thai wife but I agree that Spasso's is not the place to meet - freelancers plus a transient farang clientle.

Suggest the western pubs - Dubliner on Sukhumvit nr Soi 22 or the Irish Exchange Silom Soi Convent, Sliom Soi 4 bars etc.

Another suggestion is via the Southerners Sports Club  who play ladies touch rugby, netball etc and have quite a large circle of members plus the odd social function http://www.southerners-bangkok.com.
